Ex-Mate Wants Me Back (Seraphina and Mortimer) novel Chapter 316

Chapter 316

Third Person’s POV

Wilmot glanced at her indifferenly and reached up to tug at his shirt collar.

His collarbone was exposed, his long, slender neck accentuating the lazy yet dangerous air that surrounded him.

Trista said, “I’ll head back next door, then.”

As soon as Trista opened the door, she found Jasmine pressed against it, clearly eavesdropping.

Jasmine gave her an awkward smile and whispered, “Camilla just called and said you should make the most of tonight.

“It’s getting late, so I’ll leave you two to get some rest.”

After saying that, Jasmine closed the door behind her.

Trista stood in the doorway, torn over what to do.

After a moment of hesitation, she turned to Wilmot and said, “I’ll leave later.”

Wilmot continued to ignore her, shirtless as he rummaged through the wardrobe.

He didn’t speak to her, didn’t answer her calls, and didn’t reply to her messages. Trista had long since grown accustomed to this

side of him.

Three years as mates. Three years of being met with his cold indifference.

At first, she’d felt embarrassed and heartbroken. But now, even her inner wolf had grown numb to it.

She assumed Wilmot was looking for pajamas. Setting the skincare products down on the sofa, she walked over to the wardrobe and opened the door. “Your pajamas are over here.”

She didn’t offer to hand him the clothes or touch any of his things.

Wilmot turned around, didn’t even glance at her, took the pajamas from the wardrobe, and headed for the bathroom.

Watching him disappear into the bathroom, Trista couldn’t help but let out a long sigh.

It was so suffocating.

For some reason, being around Wilmot always made her feel as though she owed him something.

After a while, Wilmot finished his shower and walked out in dark gray pajamas, looking completely at ease as he dried his hair with a towel.

Trista sat cross legged on the sofa, working on her laptop.

His sharp, wolf-like eyes glanced at her coldly. He hadn’t expected her to actually get the document.

But she cared so much about her work, and especially about her position as vice president…

Would she really be willing to give it all u?

Trista hadn’t noticed Wilmot come out of the bathroom, and had all but forgotten he was even home.

It wasn’t until she heard movement that she looked up and realized he was already out.

She stood, laptop in her arms. “Omega Jasmine and the rest should be asleep by now, so I’ll let you get some rest too.”

After saying that, she sat back down as soon as her feet touched the floor, then bent over to rub her calf.

She was wearing loose pajarnas, and when she bent forward, the neckline shifted, leaving more of her chest exposed than she realized.

Her pale skin seemed to grow under the light, lending her an almost innocent beauty that was nevertheless undeniably alluring.

Wilmot’s gaze darkened, his gaze sharpening.

She wanted to break the bond?

Was this all an act? Was she trying to lower his guard so she could get into his bed?

At that moment, Trista looked up at him, her expression slightly embarrassed, and said, “My leg’s gone numb.”

He stared at her coldly, then suddenly tossed the towel he’d been using to dry his hair at her. His voice was icy as he said, ” Trista, what game are you playing now?”

His voice carried the unmistakable dominance of an alpha. The towel landed squarely on her face, and her right cheek stung from the impact.

Trista lowered her head and remained silent for a long moment before pulling the towel away. She rose to her feet and limped slightly as she said calmly, “Don’t worry, Wilmot. I’m not playing games. I will break the bond.”

When they first became mates, she had been desperately in love with him.

She was only twenty then. She’d seduced him, made soup for him, learned to brew his coffee, and put him first in everything. Wilmot had been her entire life.

But now, she no longer had the heart for any of it.

She limped toward the door. As she passed Wilmot, she saw the disgust in his eyes, and her expression dimmed.

Back in the guest room, she leaned against the door and stood there silently for a long time.

In the end, she gave herself a bitter, mocking smile.

All those lingering emotions made the dull ache in her chest and stomach return.

The unacknowledged mating bond was tormenting her from the inside, slowly tearing her apart.

She frowned, pressing a hand against her stomach and waiting for the pain to ease before returning to the bed. The stomach pain and nausea had been bothering her for a while now.
