Chapter 319

Third Person’s POV

“Trista, you’re back. Come have some hot soup first,” Camilla invited.

“All right,” Trista replied.

Camilla greeted Trista warmly, completely ignoring Wilmot.

Wilmot returned the slight in his own way. He walked straight into the dining room, pulled out a chair, and sat down without waiting to be invited.

The maid brought the dishes to the table.

Camilla sat beside Trista and said, “I’m thinking of staying here for a few days. You don’t mind, right?”

Trista looked at her and replied quickly, “Of course not. Stay as long as you want.”

Trista readily agreed, and Camilla immediately lit up with joy.

When she turned to Wilmot and saw his displeased expression, she said bluntly, “Will, don’t look at me like that. I don’t care what you think.”

Then she told him, “From now on, come home after work and have dinner here. Stop hanging around elsewhere all the time.”

Although Camilla said she was only staying for a while, she was actually there to keep an eye on Wilmot.

She had already made up her mind to stay until Trista got pregnant.

She simply didn’t believe Natalie was someone she couldn’t handle.

Wilmot looked up lazily, his eyes half-lidded, and drawled, “So what, I’m not allowed to make money now? You’re not spending it either?”

Camilla replied, “Who goes out to make money this late? Stop making excuses and just come home.”

Camilla had always been strong-willed, and Wilmot couldn’t be bothered to argue with her.

Once he walked out that door, who could possibly control him? He was the alpha.

Trista glanced at Wilmot. If this bond wasn’t completely ended, he’d probably have a rough time.

After dinner, the two of them stayed downstairs with Camilla for a while before she urged them to go back to their room and rest.

She didn’t leave until she had personally walked them back to the master bedroom.

Once the door closed, Wilmot took off his suit jacket and tossed it onto the sofa before rolling up his shirt sleeves.

His fair skin was exposed from his wrists to his forearms, blue veins standing out along the backs of his hands and hinting at the strength beneath.

At that moment, his phone rang.

He didn’t answer right away. Instead, he picked up a cigarette and lighter, lit the cigarette, and then walked over to the picture window to take the call.

Smoke curled from his lips as he spoke in a soft, gentle voice, “Camilla’s here. I’m not coming over tonight.”

“All right. Get some rest.” A voice answered on the other end.

“Yeah, I know.”

“Okay.”

As Wilmot spoke, his voice was so gentle that it sounded completely unlike him.

Yet Trista, his mate, had never heard him speak to her in that tone.

He didn’t care that she was standing right behind him, nor did he seem bothered by the cold, stabbing pain traveling through the mating bond.

After hanging up, he walked over to the coffee table and, as if nothing had happened, leaned down to stub out his cigarette.

The room was filled with the scent of tobacco, mingling with the lingering cool, minty fragrance clinging to his

skin.

Trista felt awkward staying there, but she was afraid to leave in case Camilla noticed. Camilla wasn’t as easy to fool as the maids.

Wilmot, meanwhile, acted as if no one else was in the room. He smoked, took calls, and then turned on his computer. He always seemed to have something to do.

Caught between staying and leaving, Trista looked at Wilmot and said, “It’s not that hard to break the bond now. Why don’t we just go through the ceremony first and tell the pack afterward?”

When the new rule was announced, Trista felt a huge weight lift from her shoulders.

As long as she and Wilmot both agreed, they no longer needed the pack elders’ approval to sever their nominal

bond.

Hearing this, Wilmot looked up at her.

His sharp, distinctly wolf-like gaze lingered on her for a moment before he let out a dismissive laugh.

“You’re in such a hurry to end the bond. Is there someone else?”

The last time she brought up ending the bond, he had assumed she was only upset by Natalie’s return, trying to get his attention in her own way.

He never expected that she had been preparing for this all along.

Wilmot found the whole thing rather interesting now.

He was curious to see what Trista would try to get from him by taking the opportunity to sever the mating bond

completely.

But Trista merely looked at him.

She couldn’t imagine just how little he thought of her.

There was no point in talking to him-Wilmot’s prejudice against her was something she could never change.

So be it.
