Chapter 320
Third Person’s POV
Wilmot bent down to pick up his cigarettes and lighter and lit another cigarette.
He stood in front of the picture window, the cool scent of tobacco lingering around him.
His back was perfectly straight, his tall, broad figure outlined against the glass. Even from behind, he looked striking.
In the face of this side of him, Trista felt helpless.
She stared at his back and said, “You know no one would dare mess with you. I didn’t mean what I said earlier. Let me know when you’re free, and we’ll go ahead with the ceremony.”
She was clearly the one who had been wronged. She was the one who had been neglected, the one who had suffered because of the fractured mating bond, and yet she was still the one comforting Wilmot.
As expected, the one who fell in love first was always the one who got hurt first.
Wilmot kept his back to her and ignored her, so Trista said nothing more. She quietly opened the door, only to find Camilla standing outside, her hand raised to knock.
Trista let out a startled sound.
Camilla glanced into the room, then looked back at Trista. “Did you and Will fight? Did he give you trouble?”
Trista smiled faintly. “We didn’t fight.”
Camilla looked unconvinced. “Then why are you coming out?”
Trista said, “I’m just going downstairs for some water.”
“All right, go ahead.”
With that, Camilla let her go, and Trista turned and headed downstairs.
Camilla, meanwhile, entered the room with a stern expression.
Wilmot had already turned around and was looking at his mother impassively. “Mom, why don’t you just sleep in here too, so you can keep an eye on us twenty-four hours a day?”
Camilla pinched his arm. “Wilmot, don’t push it. Trista has been patient and understanding with you this whole time. Don’t take her for granted. She has feelings, you know. She has thoughts and feelings of her own. You never come home, and you’re always so cold toward her. How do you expect her to feel? What do you think people are going to say? If you push Trista away for good, you’ll regret it someday.”
Wilmot frowned from the pain and slapped her hand away. “When are you going to break that habit of pinching people? Easy to do when it’s not your own skin, huh?”
Camilla said, “Of course it hurts me too-that’s exactly why I keep doing it, so you’ll listen! I’m warning you- stay away from Natalie. If you embarrass Trista again, I’ll make sure the Phillips family ends up begging in the streets. I mean it.”

Wilmot stared down at his mother. “What kind of spell did Trista put on you?”
“And what kind of spell did Natalie put on you? You’re really willing to give up someone as good as Trista?” Camilla said as she tapped him on the head.
Wilmot brushed her hand away again. Just then, Trista came upstairs carrying a glass of water.
The moment Camilla heard her footsteps, she immediately put on a bright smile and turned around. “Got your water? Now go get some sleep. You’ve got work tomorrow.”
Camilla didn’t close the door until Trista had entered the room.
The two of them were alone again. Wilmot was still rubbing his arm where Camilla had pinched him.
With Camilla watching them closely, Trista had no choice but to ask Wilmot, “Can I sleep on the sofa?”
Wilmot ignored her, grabbed his pajamas, and went into the bathroom.
Trista watched his retreating back, feeling utterly exhausted. This was something they were supposed to face together, yet he always acted as though he were merely an outsider.
She waited until Wilmot finished his shower before taking her clothes into the bathroom.
Afterward, she even cleaned the bathroom, worried he’d grumble about her having used it, in case he needed it again overnight.
When she was done, she returned to the bedroom, put in her earplugs, slipped on an eye mask, and curled up on the sofa beneath a thin blanket.
After a long, exhausting day, she had no energy left to argue with Wilmot.
At the desk, Wilmot noticed her curled up on the sofa. He put down his work and turned to look at her.
“Wilmot, are you coming home for dinner tonight? I made some soup for you.”
“Wilmot, look how beautiful the sunset is tonight.”
“Wilmot, do you like me?”
As Wilmot stared at Trista’s back, memories of the past came flooding back.
If he had never discovered her secret, if he had never found her diary…perhaps he would have believed that her feelings for him were genuine.

In the days that followed, Camilla showed no intention of leaving. Instead, she moved into the villa. Wilmot was under a lot of pressure, while Trista was practically driven crazy.
Every night, she would roll off the sofa several times, and more often than not, Wilmot was actually awake to see it.
His sharp alpha gaze watched her coldly in the darkness. He knew when she’d slipped off the sofa, yet he merely watched with indifference, never once asking if she was alright. And Trista, for her part, never let on that she
