Chapter 309
Third Person’s POV
Seraphina knew he didn’t want her to know, so she pretended she knew nothing.
And just like that, she left the country without looking back.
In fact, she had already suspected that something had happened to Mortimer the day she left.
Even then, she remained completely indifferent, never bothering to ask what had happened.
Later, it was her father, Garfield, who learned from Richard that Mortimer’s intracranial pressure had suddenly skyrocketed that day and that he’d nearly died.
Seraphina couldn’t bear to think back on how she’d felt when she heard the news.
A suffocating pain had gripped her, as though an invisible hand were squeezing her heart while closing off her throat. Her mate bond tightened painfully, leaving her writhing in agony.
For a moment, she wanted nothing more than to rush back and tell Mortimer, “It doesn’t matter if you can’t see. You’re alive-
that’s all that matters.”
But in the end, she forced herself to bury that impulse.
She knew an alpha as proud as Mortimer would never accept being blind for the rest of his life.
He still had a chance to see again, and she was that chance.
From that day on, she threw herself into her research, working around the clock and sparing no expense.
Now, the chance to save him was closer than ever.
“Great!!!”
The applause and cheers snapped Seraphina out of her trance.
As she came back to herself, she realized her cheeks were cold and wet. She hadn’t even realized the tears had been falling.
She wiped away her tears, composed herself, bought a few Christmas ornaments and decorations, and headed home.
The small villa she bought came with a 20-square-meter yard. Whenever the weight of her research became unbearable, she would escape to the garden and plant all kinds of flowers.
Winters in Germany were bitterly cold.
The few trees in the yard, each about three meters tall, stood bare, their branches covered in a layer of white snow.
Snow blanketed the roof, the fence, and the entire yard, wrapping the small villa in a quiet, pristine beauty.
In the living room, a snow-white carpet covered the floor, and the fireplace against the wall burned warmly. Frost flowers bloomed across the windowpane, glowing a fiery red as they caught the reflection of the flames inside.
Seraphina sat on the carpet, and before she knew it, dusk had fallen.
The motion-sensor lights wrapped around the decorated Christmas trees in the yard flickered on automatically.
Just as she was about to get up and turn on the living room lights, the doorbell rang.
She hurried to open the door. “Omega Susie, why are you…”

The moment she opened the door, a tall figure appeared before her.
A familiar scent unique to one alpha instantly overwhelmed her senses, followed by a deep, animalistic breath. The dormant mating bond in her chest suddenly awakened, roaring back to life and leaving her completely frozen.
Her hand gripped the doorframe tightly, and she didn’t dare look up.
The emptiness that had haunted her dreams night after night always vanished the moment she woke, leaving her afraid to hope for anything more.
Seconds ticked by.
Seraphina remained frozen in place, still holding the exact same posture as when she’first opened the door, unable to move.
It wasn’t until a large hand gently rested on her head that she finally reacted. A familiar voice sounded above her, carrying a teasing, low laugh, while the powerful beast within him let out a gentle, affectionate rumble.
“So I didn’t just change genders-I changed ranks too?”
His teasing pulled Seraphina back to reality.
She knew he was referring to the moment she had called out, “Omega Susie.”
Gathering all her courage, she slowly looked up.
Her eyes met Mortimer’s deep gaze-uncertain, yet filled with overwhelming emotion.
She opened her mouth, but for a moment, she didn’t know what to say. In the end, she could only blurt out, “I thought you were Omega Susie from next door bringing me another batch of her homemade food.”
As she spoke, her lips trembled slightly, and her hands fidgeted nervously at her sides.
“Please… come in.”
As soon as the words left her mouth, she realized they sounded too formal.
“Alright,” Mortimer responded in a low voice.
Seraphina was about to reach out to help him, but she watched as he smoothly bent down and removed his shoes,
He didn’t look like someone who was completely blind.
Seraphina watched him in a daze until he bumped into several things while making his way toward the center of the living room. Only then did she realize that he still couldn’t see anything, and that his once-sharp alpha senses had been greatly weakened by his eye injury.
She quickly grabbed a pair of spare slippers from the shoe cabinet and helped him onto the sofa.
