Ex-Mate Wants Me Back (Seraphina and Mortimer) novel Chapter 302

Chapter 302

Third Person’s POV

Caldwell fell silent.

The coldness and disgust in Seraphina’s eyes still cut him deeply.

He raised a hand to cover his eyes, as if he could fool himself into believing he no longer had to see the hatred in her gaze.

After a long moment, he slowly lowered his hand, looked at her, and said quietly, “I can perform Mortimer’s surgery.”

Seraphina froze.

She had almost forgotten that Caldwell was a leading expert in neurosurgery.

He was young, but his expertise in this field was no less impressive than that of older specialists.

But…

“Why are you telling me this?”

Caldwell’s jaw tightened. “Elias and the others won’t agree, right?”

Hearing that, Seraphina laughed.

“Of course they won’t. You wanted Mortimer dead. If they agreed, wouldn’t they just be putting his life in your hands?”

Her words were harsh, but they were the truth. They cut into Caldwell like a blade, leaving his heart feeling raw and bleeding.

“You don’t trust me?”

“Sorry, but no one would dare take that risk. Besides…”

Seraphina clenched her fist without realizing it. “Besides, Mortimer and I have already ended our bond. I no longer have the right to authorize his surgery. You don’t need to come to me about this.”

With that, she turned and walked away.

Even if Caldwell truly could save Mortimer, she no longer dared to trust him so easily.

After all, he had gone to such lengths to lure Mortimer to Ukraine, sacrificing so many innocent lives in the process. And now, everyone believed he was the new heir of the Craig Group.

With such a perfect opportunity to avenge his father and destroy the century-old legacy of Craig Group and the Blade pack, how could he possibly save Mortimer?

If Mortimer really recovered, then what would everything Caldwell had done before mean?

Not to mention that she and Mortimer were no longer bonded and she had no right to sign the consent form. Even if she did, she would rather let Mortimer remain unconscious than put her name on that document.

Seraphina left the Healing Center building without looking back, ignoring the fact that Caldwell silently followed

behind her.

Just then, a tall man in a simple casual jacket walked toward them.

The moment Seraphina saw him, she recognized him.

He was the middle-aged man Trista had rescued in Ukraine.

Last time, Seraphina had reacted quickly and pulled him beneath the steel bed, allowing him to avoid the falling debris.

That decision had helped him survive until rescue arrived.

“Seraphina.”

The man greeted her and sincerely thanked her for saving his life. Then, unexpectedly, his gaze shifted toward Caldwell.

His expression was complicated, carrying a hint of apology that was difficult to explain.

He walked up to Caldwell and said slowly, “Hello, Caldwell.”

Caldwell looked at him and immediately recognized him as the man who had been rescued from the ruins in

Ukraine.

Back then, when the three of them had been pulled from beneath the rubble, this man had suffered the least severe injuries.

He still remembered that Seraphina had pushed him beneath the steel bed, saving him from being crushed by the falling debris.

Caldwell had never had a good impression of him, so his expression remained cold. The wary aura of his wolf stirred within him.

“Who are you?”

“I am Ethan Cress’s direct superior, Officer Logan Pierce.”

Ethan. Caldwell knew that name all too well.

His mother, Abigail, had repeated it countless times throughout his life.

His father, a small-time criminal who had been brutally beaten to death by members of the Blade pack, had been named Ethan.

But as he stared at the man in front of him and listened to his introduction, Caldwell couldn’t understand what he

meant.

Direct superior?

Officer?

He couldn’t understand how those words could be connected to the man he had always known as a criminal.

Confused and uncertain, Caldwell looked at Logan, convinced he had mistaken him for someone else.

Before Caldwell could speak, Logan continued. “That’s right. Your father, Ethan. I was his direct superior and his handler.”

Logan’s words made Seraphina stop in her tracks.
