Chapter 300
Third Person’s POV
Caldwell had convinced himself that he was only protecting her from Tobias. That he was only getting rid of a future threat before it could harm her.
He had only wanted to rise high enough for her to finally see him.
He only…
Yet in the end, he still hurt her. He used her.
After that, Seraphina never saw Caldwell again.
He had already resigned from his job.
However, whenever she happened to turn on the TV, she would occasionally see reports about him in the news covering the Craig Group.
The media praised Caldwell as the perfect successor who had kept the Craig Group standing after Mortimer’s accident.
They claimed that Caldwell was no less capable than Mortimer had been.
But the Caldwell she saw on television, aside from that familiar face, was no longer the gentle and polite man she
once knew.
He was no longer the “chatterbox” Caldwell who could turn a single text message into several separate messages.
After their bitter confrontation, Seraphina warned Elias about what Caldwell had done, even though she had no evidence.
When Elias heard everything, he remained silent for a long time.
Seraphina didn’t know what he was thinking. She had given him the warning, and whatever happened next was no longer her concern.
For a long time afterward, she continued to see Caldwell appear in financial news reports and on magazine covers.
Most of the media still speculated that he would become the Craig Group’s undisputed heir.
Seraphina didn’t know why Elias continued to let Caldwell manage the Craig Group, whether he didn’t believe her or had other plans. But she never asked.
After that conversation with Caldwell, she never saw him again.
Caldwell occasionally sent her messages, just like he used to, as if nothing unpleasant had ever happened between
them.
But Seraphina never replied. She also never deleted him. She simply left him in her contacts, treating him like a stranger she had once known.
Ever since she learned that Mortimer remained unconscious, Seraphina had visited him at the Healing Center several times. 1
Because he had been trapped under a massive stone slab for so long, he had developed crush syndrome.

A large amount of muscle tissue on his back had died, resulting in a severe wound infection.
During this time, the doctors conducted numerous evaluations and performed several major surgeries.
“Luna Seraphina.” Velda’s voice came from behind her.
Seraphina turned around. Velda slowly walked over, her gaze falling on the man lying motionless inside the private ward.
Her eyes were filled with sadness and worry. The lively spirit Seraphina remembered was gone, along with the vibrant wolf aura that had once surrounded her.
“I never thought Mortimer would end up lying here like this one day.”
The moment she spoke, Velda’s voice broke.
“If I had known, I wouldn’t have always made him angry.”
Seraphina’s eyes reddened as well. She lowered her voice. “I’m sorry. If it weren’t for him saving me…”
Velda quickly shook her head. “No, Luna Seraphina. This isn’t your fault. You couldn’t have known an earthquake would happen. Besides…”
She paused, her gaze falling on Mortimer. “This was his choice. As a werewolf, protecting one’s mate, even at the cost of one’s life, is instinctive. Even though he’s lying here now, I’m sure he’s happy that he was able to save you.
She looked at Seraphina, hesitated, and finally continued. “Even though… even though I used to say he was awful, and I hated how he treated you because of Vivian, that woman who pretended to be helpless. But Luna Seraphina…
11
She tightened her grip on Seraphina’s arm, tears spilling from her eyes.
“Think of it as me guilt-tripping you if you want. But for his sake, after he risked his life to save you… if he wakes up, could you please give him another chance?”
After saying that, she didn’t dare meet Seraphina’s eyes.
She knew what she was doing was wrong. She knew she was trying to pressure Seraphina with Mortimer’s sacrifice. But deep down, she still couldn’t stop worrying about him, especially when she could sense the wolf within him, so weak that it was barely holding on.
Seraphina didn’t answer. She looked quietly at the man lying inside the hospital room, wondering when he would finally wake up. She remembered what she had said to Mortimer when they were trapped beneath the rubble that day.
“If we make it out alive, I’ll give you another chance.”
