Chapter 299
Third Person’s POV
There was even a trace of despairin his voice.
The moment Seraphina heard the name “Moses,” her brows drew together.
She stared straight into Caldwell’s seemingly calm eyes.
Her eyes held nothing-no accusation, no anger, not even disappointment. And yet Caldwell, already drowning in guilt, couldn’t bring himself to meet her gaze, his gray wolf clawing frantically beneath his skin.
He started to change the subject.
“Now, with Mortimer missing, his father’s too devastated to focus on the company. Edwin’s been sick ever since my mother’s little stunt. And yet he entrusted the Craig Group to me.”
Caldwell gave a faint, bitter smile and stared off into the distance. “I never thought he’d still trust me.”
He didn’t look at Seraphina after saying that, but he could feel her sharp gaze cutting into him.
His fingers curled into tight fists at his sides. The muscles in his forearms bunched and corded, veins bulging against the flesh as if fighting to break free with every pulse of his heart.
“Isn’t this what you wanted?” Seraphina finally spoke.
Her voice was quiet. But the words hit Caldwell harder than any blow.
He snapped his head toward her, fighting to contain his wolf as it thrashed in agony, but his eyes betrayed him-they were filled with disbelief and hurt.
He could be ruthless to anyone else. But her? He couldn’t even look her in the eye.
His trembling lips parted and closed several times, wordless. Finally, forcing a tight smile, he asked in a hoarse voice, “What are you talking about?”
Seraphina’s gaze grew even sharper. “You faked a kidnapping, tricked me out of the blast zone, and manipulated Moses into blowing up the protected area. You turned the entire world against him-only to weaponize that fury and destroy him.”
She had spent so long denying the suspicion buried deep inside her. But the moment she saw Caldwell, the truth became
undeniable.
“Leveling a civilian compound to lure Mortimer there…”
She inhaled sharply, her eyes burning red.
“Actually, even without that earthquake, you wouldn’t have let Mortimer leave alive, would you? Let me guess-Moses’s men were supposed to do the job. Am I right?”
After that, Caldwell would write off Mortimer’s death as mere collateral damage of the civil war. His hands would stay clean.
And with Mortimer gone and the Blade pack too crippled to take over the Craig Group, Caldwell could slide right into the driver’s
seat.
Then, once he had total control, he’d destroy the company and the pack to avenge his father.
And everything had happened exactly the way she had predicted.
Caldwell had walked out of the slaughter without a single stain on him.
Seraphina had never wanted to believe he was capable of something like this.

She still remembered-when she was at rock bottom, when she had nothing left-he was the one who stayed.
“You used me.” Seraphina’s voice broke. “And you got so many people killed.”
The moment the words left her mouth, tears spilled from her eyes.
Caldwell’s face didn’t even twitch as she exposed his schemes.
But the words “You used me” gutted him. His composure shattered, and the raging wolf inside him whimpered in pain.
He froze. His bandaged fingers curled tightly before slowly relaxing again. The wounds on his claws reopened, a thin line of blood seeping through the gauze.
As he saw the tears streaming down her face, panic seized him.
“Toasty-” he rasped.
“Don’t. Please. Don’t call me that.” Seraphina held up a hand, cutting him off.
“Just… don’t.”
“I’m sorry… I’m so sorry…” Caldwell murmured.
He wasn’t going to deny what he had done in front of Seraphina.
And Seraphina knew it.
That was because, despite getting every detail right, she had no proof-nothing that could make him answer for any of it.
