"No worries, I'll toss it when I get out," Leonora said, noticing Taylor hadn’t moved his hand. She reluctantly placed the tissue in his palm.
As the traffic jam began to clear, Blake glanced in the rearview mirror, seeing Taylor and Leonora in the backseat. Though they weren’t talking, Taylor’s mood was noticeably better, his eyes sparkling in a way Blake hadn’t seen before.
Grinning, Blake suggested, "Mr. Taylor, it's dinner time. You and Ms. Arielle don’t often get a chance to meet. How about we head to Lavender Bistro?"
The bistro Blake mentioned was a charming, private spot that Taylor often visited.
Taylor turned to Leonora, "How about we grab some dinner before I take you home? It won’t take long."
Blake’s idea was exactly what Taylor was hoping for. If Blake hadn’t suggested it, Taylor would have himself.
Leonora found it hard to refuse Taylor’s polite request and said, "Sure, that works."
Two years ago, he left her a check for a million dollars. She hadn't touched it and thought she might return it to him today.
Agreeing to dinner seemed to lift Taylor’s spirits even more, adding a noticeable cheerfulness to his demeanor.
Soon enough, they parked outside the restaurant. Blake, looking a bit sheepish, approached them. "Mr. Taylor, it’s my wife’s birthday today. Mind if I head home first?"
He trailed off, not finishing his sentence. Taylor, understanding, nodded. "Go ahead, Blake. I’ve got it from here."
Blake quickly handed over the car keys. "Thanks, Mr. Taylor. I’ll grab a cab back."
Without waiting for a response, Blake hurried off. He didn’t want to be the third wheel, especially after Taylor had waited two years for this moment.
Watching Blake leave, Leonora could easily understand his intention. He was giving her and Taylor some alone time. But after more than two years, was it still necessary?
Her thoughts drifted to their last encounter when Taylor was with another girl. Their eyes met, and Taylor, calm as ever, said, "Shall we?"
"Sure."
Once inside the private room, with tea and appetizers served, Taylor poured Leonora a cup of tea. "How have you been these past two years?"
Two years. Not too long, but not short either. To Taylor, it felt like centuries, like he had been longing for her forever.
"I’ve been good. How about you?" Leonora responded.
"I’ve been alright."
