At the moment, Leonora was worried her parents wouldn't approve of her relationship, so she quickly jumped in to answer any questions they had.
Shania, however, zeroed in on something else: "Who's this leader at the company you mentioned?"
Two years ago, Leonora had vaguely mentioned someone important at her company, but she hadn't given specifics.
Even though Leonora had already mentioned Taylor's name, Shania and Devon still didn't make the connection, forgetting that Leonora had worked at the Ferguson Group.
Both of them were school teachers, more interested in educational matters and not too concerned with other things.
Upon hearing her mother’s question, Leonora replied, "He's one of the shareholders, the one with the most shares. Basically, he's the boss of the company."
Leonora's voice softened when she mentioned Taylor's status.
She knew her parents never expected her to find someone wealthy or with exceptional conditions; they were fine with someone average.
Someone too well-off would be out of their league, a mismatch of social status.
But she liked Taylor.
Hearing Leonora's voice grow softer, Devon furrowed his brow and asked, "Arielle, what did you say? Speak up, your mom and I didn't catch that."
Feeling a bit guilty under her parents' scrutiny, Leonora thought to herself that there was no hiding it; they'd eventually find out unless she ended things with Taylor.
So, she mustered up her courage and said, "I said, he's my former company's boss. His name is Taylor. You can look him up online."
"Company boss?" Devon was initially stunned, then said, "Arielle, I remember your former company was a publicly traded one, quite a large corporation with overseas branches."
"Is it Mr. Jason from the Ferguson family?"
"Yes, it's him." Leonora nodded.
After admitting the truth, Devon's face changed: "Arielle, how did you get involved with someone like that? You should clear things up with him, tell him you two aren't a good match."
Devon's first reaction was one of incompatibility, questioning what merits their daughter had to match such a person, to manage such a person.
A mismatch of social status, better to nip this in the bud.
Otherwise, they'd end up parting ways later.
The gap in their upbringing and family backgrounds made Devon reject the relationship outright.
His daughter couldn't control such a person; she would certainly be wronged.
Better to forget it!
Seeing Devon's strong reaction, Shania also chimed in: "Arielle, if what you're saying is true, this person really isn't suitable. Your dad and I agree on this."
If it were a minor leader from a similar family background, they might consider it, but this was too much of a disparity.
Seeing her parents' immediate disapproval, Leonora frowned deeply and said, "Mom, Dad, don't be so prejudiced. You haven't even met him; how can you say he's not suitable?"
"Taylor has a great temperament; he's very good to me, very accommodating. I used to mess around a lot with him, and he always indulged me."
She was already with Taylor, so naturally, she had to speak well of him. Besides, Taylor had always been patient with her, better than anyone she had dated before.
Shania, seeing Leonora so smitten, tried to recall, saying, "Arielle, if I remember correctly, your boss had quite a few girlfriends, right?"
At that moment, Devon was looking up gossip about Taylor online.
Leonora quickly responded, "Mom, those were things from when he was very young, and a lot of it was just gossip, not true."
Shania glanced at the phone Devon handed her and said, "There's no smoke without fire; there must be some truth in it, Arielle. It's not that your dad and I disagree, but you two really aren't suitable. You know it yourself, his past girlfriends were either TV stars or famous models. Such a man, you two aren't suitable."
