It was a little past one when they finished their meal and left the restaurant. Joselyn suggested catching a movie in the afternoon, and Leonora agreed.
"Why not? I’ve got nothing better to do," she thought.
"Arielle, check out these movies. Which one do you fancy?" Joselyn asked, as Leonora turned to make her selection, only to freeze in her tracks.
Taylor?
The person ahead was unmistakably Taylor.
She couldn't believe it at first, seeing him here of all places. But there he was, exiting the restaurant from the opposite side, with a girl by his side.
Leonora's gaze darted away nervously, but Joselyn nudged her with an elbow, "Arielle?"
Following her gaze, Joselyn also spotted Taylor not far off.
For a moment, Joselyn was taken aback.
She hadn't expected Leonora and Taylor, who had broken up long ago, to run into each other now.
Instinctively, she called out, "Mr. Taylor."
Just as Leonora averted her gaze, Taylor had already seen her, and he froze too.
He hadn’t expected to bump into Leonora here either.
Joselyn’s call broke the silence.
Taylor, hands in his pockets, casually walked over as if nothing were amiss.
That’s when Joselyn noticed the girl beside him, and her feelings became mixed.
Wealthy men sure move on fast, she thought.
But it wasn’t surprising. Even before their breakup, many women were already making advances. Now, nearly two months later, it wasn’t odd for him to have a new girlfriend.
As Taylor approached, Leonora’s breathing quickened, her heart inexplicably racing, as if it ached faintly.
If Taylor’s new girlfriend was from their own social circle and not like her, perhaps she wouldn’t have reacted so strongly.
But seeing the girl beside him, Leonora could faintly see a reflection of herself, and her heart felt heavy.
“Having lunch with friends,” Taylor greeted as he approached, his manner as caring as ever.
“Uh-huh,” Leonora nodded lightly.
With Leonora’s brief reply, Taylor didn’t know what else to say, so he just looked down at her.
After nearly two months apart, she looked well—neither gaining nor losing weight, still beautiful.
He wanted to explain something to Leonora several times but eventually held back, unsure of where to begin.
Seeing the awkwardness between them, Joselyn intervened, “Mr. Taylor, our movie is about to start. We should head in. Enjoy the rest of your day.”
Not wanting to part from Leonora without a proper farewell, wanting to gaze at her a moment longer, Taylor reluctantly nodded, letting her go.
Watching Leonora’s retreating figure, Taylor felt a wave of emotions.
He hadn’t expected their reunion to be like this, them being nothing more than the most familiar strangers. Their earlier exchange amounted to nothing more than a single “uh-huh.”
