30 Days Till I Divorce My Husband novel Chapter 580

Watching his mom's determined stance to argue today gave Taylor a headache.

After staring at his mom helplessly for what felt like forever, Taylor finally said, "Mom, Leonora and I broke up. She won't be coming over anymore."

He had delayed telling his family because he hadn't fully come to terms with it himself. But now, facing reality and knowing he could never bring Leonora back, he decided it was time to be upfront with his mom.

Upon hearing about the breakup, Carrie's eyes widened in shock. Despite nudging Taylor a few times and him always finding excuses, she was still taken aback. Though she had never met this Leonora, she could tell from the way Taylor spoke about her that he really liked her.

But her son, being so stubborn and unreasonable, breaking up with the girl? Impossible. She knew her son best; she believed anyone could be reasonable, but not him. Despite his calm and polite exterior and usual smile, he was different inside and out.

After the initial shock, Carrie asked, "Wasn't everything fine just a while ago? Didn't you say she was going to visit us?"

Losing the daughter-in-law she thought was within reach saddened Carrie deeply. She had seen the girl's photo and liked her. Taylor's excuse about their incompatible personalities didn't sit well with her. She slapped his arm, scolding, "I've told you before, to temper your mood and treat the girl better, but you wouldn't listen. Now, look! The bride you almost had is gone!"

"Now tell me, you're 32, when do you plan to get married? When do you plan to give me grandchildren?"

Seeing his mom so worked up and asking for grandchildren again, Taylor felt helpless. "Mom, if you know someone suitable, introduce me. I'll go meet them."

Since he couldn't be with Leonora, it didn't matter to him anymore who he ended up with; it was just completing a task. Taylor's sudden compliance and willingness to go on arranged dates shocked Carrie again. Staring at her son, she noticed the lack of light in his eyes. After raising him for 32 years, she saw his heartache for the first time. Previous troubles with Ava had angered him, but this was different.

Seeing Taylor's mental exhaustion, Carrie softened, no longer scolding him but gently saying, "Alright, I'll look into it for you." In the end, she couldn't bear seeing her son unhappy, knowing he must be feeling terrible to have agreed to arranged dates. So, she decided to arrange some meetings for him. Meeting new people might somewhat ease his heartache. Still, thinking she had never met Leonora, Carrie couldn't help but feel regret.

Watching Taylor go back to his room, Carrie shared in his sadness. Back in his room, Taylor took a shower, changed clothes, and stood by the floor-to-ceiling window to smoke a cigarette. He knew Leonora had returned to Southbay with the gifts he had given her. Likely, she had also seen the bank book he left for her. Although he hoped she'd call him, saying anything at all, he knew that wasn't her style. She wouldn't call, nor would she touch the money. Whether she used it or not, he left it for her, hoping it would help if she ever needed it.
