Just then, Blake sped up and got in front of Leonora, reaching out to grab the documents from her arms. “Ms. Arielle, let me take these. Which office are they for?”
Leonora, calm as ever, replied, “Mr. Jason’s office in the secretarial department.”
After she answered, Blake shot a quick glance at Kitty. He didn’t need any further explanation to know what was going on. Kitty must have deliberately sought out Leonora and given her some extra work.
Once he had taken the documents from Leonora, Taylor approached her too. He gently touched her arm and asked softly, “Honey, what are you doing up here?”
Usually, Leonora wouldn’t wander the offices unless Geoffrey had given her specific instructions. So bumping into her on the top floor was quite a surprise for Taylor. What made it more surprising was Kitty’s presence, calling him “brother-in-law” and making all those suggestive comments. More importantly, he hadn’t properly dealt with Kitty’s flirtations and had let her behavior slide.
Trying to remain polite, Leonora gently removed Taylor’s hand from her arm and said, “Mr. Taylor, I’m just here to deliver some copied documents.”
The formal address made Taylor’s expression shift slightly. But he had promised Leonora they wouldn’t disclose their relationship at work. At least not yet. So he didn’t argue with her about it. Plus, with a beautiful and charming woman like Kitty by his side, Leonora was even less likely to reveal their relationship – it would only embarrass her if things didn’t work out between them.
Earlier that afternoon, in the printing room, she had overheard colleagues gossiping about how Kitty and Taylor were a perfect match. Maybe Kitty’s arrival at Ferguson Group was orchestrated by their parents. This made Leonora even more reluctant to get involved with Taylor at this moment. She didn’t want to make a scene.
Leonora’s composed demeanor didn’t go unnoticed by those around, including the project collaborators. Taylor, realizing it wasn’t the best time to discuss their personal matters, whispered to her, “Sweetheart, I’ve got some things to handle right now. I’ll come pick you up later.”
Despite the turmoil inside, Leonora didn’t show any anger and calmly nodded. “Alright, you go ahead.”
Leonora had always conducted herself with dignity. No matter what, she believed in resolving things amicably. She didn’t want to make a scene. So even when she saw Taylor being intimate with another woman, or being intentionally troubled by Kitty, or noticing Taylor’s unusual behavior in recent days – missing calls, distracted demeanor – she didn't react inappropriately or say anything unnecessary. She gave Taylor the respect he deserved.
Leonora’s calm and steady demeanor slightly darkened Kitty’s expression. Earlier, when Kitty had run into her, she had looked down on Leonora, thinking she was just a girl from a humble background. But now, seeing Leonora’s poise, she was somewhat impressed. Most girls would have lost their cool and confronted Taylor right then and there. However, that was precisely what Kitty had hoped for – she wanted Leonora and Taylor to argue, to show her immaturity. That way, Taylor would grow to disdain Leonora. But Leonora remained unaffected in both emotion and temper.
