He just couldn't bring himself to do it.
First of all, he felt it would objectify Leonora and be way too disrespectful to her. Second, he didn't want them meeting again, hoping they'd have no further entanglements.
Grant ignored Taylor's warning and cut straight to the chase: "Taylor, if you're trying to get back at me, you've already succeeded."
After Grant finished speaking, Taylor just stared at him, saying nothing.
At that moment, the two men stood facing each other, one on either side of the desk.
Grant paused briefly before continuing, "I'll leave Ravenwood, and I won't see Arielle again. Let her live her life freely."
Even though Leonora had assured him she would handle things with Taylor, and Ellory had passed along some messages, Grant knew Leonora too well. She was no match for Taylor.
This mess had started because of him, and after days of thinking it over, he decided he wanted to resolve it for Leonora, even if it meant leaving Ravenwood forever.
Grant's willingness to leave Ravenwood for Leonora darkened Taylor's expression, his mood not lightened by Grant's concessions. Even if he left, perhaps never to see Leonora again.
Taylor's gaze turned icy as he said with a mocking smile, "Uncle, Arielle and I are in love. My relationship with her has nothing to do with you, so don't flatter yourself."
Initially, he had approached Leonora to get back at Grant, but now Taylor could completely deny that, claiming their relationship was born of love. When it came to being shameless, if he was second, no one could claim first place.
Moreover, the more Grant expressed his deep feelings, the more unsettled Taylor felt, unwilling to associate his and Leonora's relationship with Grant. He refused to admit he was using Leonora.
Grant simply asked, "Taylor, you say you love Arielle. Will you marry her? If our family finds out about her and me, can you stand up to their opposition?"
Taylor scoffed, "You don't need to worry about my affairs. Just take care of yourself."
Implying Grant should worry about his own health rather than meddle in his life.
Grant pressed on, "What if Arielle finds out your motives for approaching her? What will she think?"
At this, Taylor's expression soured. Raising an eyebrow, he stared at Grant before sarcastically asking, "Are you threatening me?"
"I'm not threatening you, just letting you know that nothing stays hidden forever. If you're not sincere about Arielle, I hope you minimize the hurt to her."
Taylor's face darkened even more. They had no right to judge his feelings for Leonora.
Without arguing further, Taylor coldly said, "Uncle, I have work to do. I'm not wasting any more time on this."
Grant concluded, "I'll leave Ravenwood, hoping you'll spare Arielle by then."
With that, Grant left, the door closing softly behind him. Taylor, his face set, walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, hands in his suit pockets.
Who he chose to be with or whether he married was none of their business. Taylor's life didn't need their interference.
However, thinking of Grant's sacrifices for Leonora, Taylor couldn't help feeling a twinge of jealousy, fearing a rekindled romance.
Standing by the window until his emotions settled, Taylor returned to his desk to continue working.
As evening approached, he went to the company entrance as usual to wait for Leonora. But he waited and waited, from 5:30 to nearly 7:00, until the company was deserted, and still, Leonora didn't appear.
Checking the time on his watch, Taylor called Leonora.
