Suddenly, it felt like the air itself had stopped moving.
Jason stood frozen.
He was rooted in place, staring at Estrella in sheer disbelief for what felt like an eternity. Finally, with a furrowed brow and eyes locked onto hers, he asked, “Estrella, what did you just say?”
He thought he’d heard her correctly.
But he wasn’t sure.
With disbelief etched on his face, Estrella calmly set down the book she was holding and looked him straight in the eye. “Keith’s herbalist said I’m pregnant. He told me during our visit to First Mansion this evening.”
Jason’s breath hitched as Estrella repeated the news.
The towel he was using to dry his hair was now clenched tightly in his hand, and for a moment, he was speechless.
As the reality sank in—realizing he was about to become a father again, that a little Isaac was growing inside Estrella—Jason swallowed hard. He walked over to her, cupped her face in his hands, and kissed her deeply.
Estrella couldn’t help but smile through Jason’s fervent kisses. She struggled for breath a few times, trying to push him away, but seeing his overwhelming excitement and affection, she relented.
After a long, passionate kiss, Jason, still holding her face, gazed into her eyes with intensity and said, “Estrella, thank you.”
His eyes turned red as he spoke.
They glistened with unshed tears, uncontrollably so.
While kissing her, his mind was flooded with memories of their years together—the misunderstandings, the hardships Estrella had endured.
Though he had always hoped for Estrella to become pregnant again, longing to be a better father this time, the news still caught him off guard and moved him deeply.
With eyes brimming with emotion, Estrella gently touched his face and laughed, “Silly, isn’t this what we’ve been hoping for?”
Jason held Estrella’s wrist and said, “Last time, I wasn’t there for you. It doesn’t count.”
The intensity in Jason’s eyes and the warmth of his touch made Estrella realize just how tough their journey had been.
Even now, they had unresolved issues.
She mentioned, “Today was just a herbalist’s consultation. We need to visit the hospital tomorrow for confirmation.” She added, “Maybe the herbalist was just trying to ease the situation for Keith.”
Jason, still holding her wrist, softly said, “Alright, we’ll check it out at the hospital tomorrow.”
Despite Estrella’s caution, Jason couldn’t shake the feeling that the pregnancy was real, especially considering her recent changes in appetite and sleep patterns.
The more he thought about it, the more convinced he became.
Outside the window, the moon shone bright, overshadowing the stars, as Jason’s heart raced with excitement.
They looked at each other for a long while before Jason playfully slapped Estrella’s bottom. “Come here and give me a hug.”
Estrella, feigning laziness, retorted, “After all that kissing, you still want a hug?”
Jason simply said, “I need a hug,” pulling Estrella into his arms from the bed, enveloping her in a gentle embrace.
Standing on Jason’s feet, the soft yellow light in the room cast a warm glow around them. Even the sounds of nature from the yard couldn’t disturb the peace of the night.
