Barging into Jason's office like he owned the place, Bryce plopped himself down in the chair across from Jason's desk with a casual swagger. With a cheeky grin, he said, "Bro, you’re really making waves here! Axis Technology is the talk of Ravenwood. You back to shake things up?"
Since Jason came back, other top tech firms in Ravenwood had been struggling, with several of their stocks taking a nosedive. Meanwhile, Jason had been busy, acquiring two other companies and pushing his enterprise to new heights.
Bryce's teasing was met with Jason’s nonchalant gaze. "Didn’t mess with you, did I? Consider that a favor."
Bryce chuckled, crossing his legs. "My company’s got shares in Ella’s venture, bro. You wouldn’t dare mess with me."
Jason’s look of disdain was evident as he eyed Bryce from across the desk.
Leaning back, Bryce tossed a business proposal onto Jason's desk with a flourish. "New project. I think Axis Technology should give it a shot. Take a look and see if it interests you."
The proposal Bryce handed over was for a new development project in Ravenwood. If Jason agreed, he’d be spending a lot more time in Ravenwood.
Bryce had thought this visit through thoroughly. After all, one was his brother, and the other his mentor; he felt compelled to broker some kind of help.
Jason looked at Bryce impassively, easily guessing his intentions: to anchor him in Ravenwood through work.
Without reaching for the proposal, Bryce glanced at it and said, "Come on, bro. Give it a look. The profit margins are pretty sweet."
At that, Jason picked up the document, his expression unreadable. "Fine, I’ll check it out."
As Jason took the proposal, Bryce leaned in, a hint of mischief in his posture. "But hey, what’s the deal with you and my sister Estrella these days? Haven’t heard much about you two."
"My sister Estrella?"
Jason shot him a cold look.
Bryce was momentarily taken aback, then laughed at Jason’s stern gaze. "Man, glaring at me won’t change the fact that Ella’s literally my sister, and you two are history."
Jason’s expression could sour milk.
But Bryce seemed oblivious to the storm brewing in Jason’s eyes, continuing, "What’s the plan? Gonna exile me to some community project as punishment? Haha, I’m not even in your company, you can’t touch me."
Jason’s response was to pick up a pen holder and hurl it toward Bryce, who dodged nimbly, catching it in his hands. "Why so childish?" Bryce teased, then probed, "Seriously though, what’s the situation with you and Estrella? If you’re truly over her, I might start introducing her to potential boyfriends."
"The line of guys wanting to date my Ella stretches around the globe."
Jason simply stared back, his gaze sharp enough to cut through steel.
Bryce was clearly there to stir the pot.
Raising his hand, Jason loosened his cufflinks, his voice icy. "Got nothing worthwhile?"
Faced with Jason’s piercing gaze and frosty tone, Bryce quickly stood up. "Just kidding, man! I was just messing with you. I’ll head back and get busy. Don’t forget to check out the proposal, alright?"
As Bryce reached the door, he turned back. "Seriously, bro. The competition for Ella is fierce. Don’t end up regretting it."
Jason reached for something on the desk as Bryce made a quick exit.
The office door closed with a soft click behind Bryce. Jason thought back to a time at a resort where Estrella was indeed popular, and the thought of her with someone else twisted his gut.
He had to sort things out with Keith, and fast.
