The next morning, Estrella wandered downstairs to find Jason already wrapped up in a game of chess with Isaac. It wasn’t even breakfast time, but there they were, deep in concentration. You could see a new light in Jason's eyes, a blend of adoration and a bit of amazement, like he was still processing the fact that he had a son this grown-up. His gaze was softer than usual, almost tender.

Autumn, noticing Estrella coming down, met her with a puzzled look. "Jason's been unusually chipper today, playing with Isaac since dawn, hugging and smothering him with kisses. I've known him forever and I've never seen him like this. Estrella, what did you slip him last night?"

Estrella, turning her attention from the chess game to Autumn, answered calmly, "I told him last night that Isaac is his biological son."

Autumn's jaw practically hit the floor. "Wait, what? Isaac is Jason's biological son?"

Before Estrella could elaborate, Autumn cut in, "But when I asked you before, you said he wasn't! You said he was some scientific miracle. How did he suddenly become Jason's biological son?"

Realizing that Autumn had been out of the loop, Estrella brushed her hair back and clarified, "Oh right, I forgot you didn't know. I didn't tell you because it was a rough time for me, and I didn't want to upset you."

Autumn scoffed, "Sure, because you and your dad think I can't handle the truth, keeping secrets to prevent me from blabbing."

Estrella, a bit taken aback by her mother's insight, quickly hugged her. "Mom, I swear, Dad and I never meant to keep it from you."

Seeing her daughter's sincerity, Autumn let out a sigh and let the matter drop. "Well, if he's Jason's son, that's good. It'll only make your relationship with Jason stronger." She added, "Honestly, I had my suspicions. Isaac isn't one to warm up to people, but he's always been close to Jason, even sharing you with him. Even I could see the connection."

Relieved, Estrella asked for her mother’s support in explaining everything to her father.

Later, when Estrella joined Jason and Isaac, her mood soured quickly when she saw their chessboard. Jason was playing seriously, blocking all of Isaac's moves and leaving the poor kid on the verge of tears.

"Jason, he's just a kid! Why are you taking this so seriously? He barely knows the rules," Estrella snapped, clearly frustrated.

Jason defended himself, "Life’s like a chess game. I'm just preparing him for the harsh realities of the world."
