Julian had secured a top-tier surgical team, ensuring a remarkably smooth recovery. After just a week of observation, Sylvia was cleared for discharge.
On the day she was leaving, a massive bouquet of flowers was delivered to her VIP suite. Julian looked surprised when he saw it. Realizing he wasn't the sender, Sylvia immediately handed the flowers over to Penelope.
"You don't have to walk on eggshells around me. I'm not that petty," Julian chuckled.
Sylvia met his gaze with absolute sincerity. "I know, but I don't want to give you any reason to be jealous."
Penelope exaggerated a gag reflex, shaking her head. "Ugh, the stench of true love is suffocating..."
Having stayed in the luxurious suite for a week, they had accumulated quite a bit of luggage. Just as they finished packing and stepped into the hallway, they walked straight into Aunt Vivienne.
Vivienne recognized the actress instantly.
At four months pregnant, Sylvia's bump was barely noticeable. Her waist was still impossibly slender; being an actress meant she was naturally much thinner than the average person, so even the pregnancy weight hadn't changed her silhouette much.
Sylvia saw her too, but fully intended to ignore her.
Just as they were about to brush past each other, Vivienne stopped and sneered, "You're that little actress who used to trail after Ash, right? Got knocked up pretty quick, didn't you?"
"Jumping from one bed to another... how tacky. Do girls these days have absolutely no self-respect?"
"Did you hand me a fake medical report back then so you could secretly trap my nephew with a baby?"
She was naturally paranoid, and though she had no solid proof, she couldn't resist throwing the bait to see if Sylvia would bite.
Her words were incredibly venomous.
Even knowing exactly what kind of woman she was, Sylvia felt a spike of fury. "You can relax. This baby's last name is Sterling, not Wyatt!"
To Vivienne, her nephew was practically royalty. While she guarded him fiercely against gold-diggers, hearing Sylvia dismiss the Wyatt name so casually stung her pride.
"Watch your mouth! I haven't even finished telling you how pathetic you are..."
Julian stepped forward, his eyes icing over behind his gold-rimmed glasses. "Excuse me, but who exactly do you think you are to lecture my fiancée? Walking around insulting strangers... don't you think you're embarrassing yourself?"
He had been with Sylvia for three years. They rarely used protection. If it were going to happen, it would have happened ages ago.
Besides, the injuries from his past accident made it incredibly difficult for him to have children anyway.
Vivienne scoffed. "Then she must have been cheating on you the whole time. How else could she have jumped to another man and gotten pregnant so fast?"
Ashton went deathly silent. His face was an unreadable mask as he pulled out a cigarette, his dark eyes swirling with something dangerously volatile. "Yeah. She certainly moved on fast."
The smoke drifted upward, highlighting the sharp, gaunt lines of his jaw.
Vivienne frowned at the near-empty pack of cigarettes. He was smoking like a chimney these days.
"Honestly, Ash, you need to cut back on those... wait, what's this?"
Her eyes caught sight of a sleek velvet box resting on his desk. Before he could stop her, she snapped it open, revealing a stunning sapphire engagement ring. A satisfied smile spread across her face.
"Is this for Reina? When are you planning to pop the question? I know your families already agreed on the marriage, but you can't skip the actual proposal."
