You Had Me, You Lost Me, You'll Never Find Me novel Chapter 73

He patiently comforted Reina for a few more minutes before ending the call.

Ashton's gaze shifted back to Sylvia, who was still eating. He pulled out the chair next to her, sat down, and asked, "How's the food?"

Seeing him sit down, Sylvia announced she was done and walked over to the floor-to-ceiling windows.

In the distance, on the LED billboard of a skyscraper, bright neon letters declared:

"Congratulations to Mr. Ashton Wyatt and Ms. Reina Winslet on their engagement."

The crimson letters were a blinding eyesore.

Sylvia took a deep breath, deciding she needed to talk things out with Ashton.

Ashton didn't have much of an appetite. He drank a little soup, had Zelda clear the plates, and walked over to Sylvia, slowly lighting a cigarette.

Nicotine was addictive.

Ever since she met him, he had a smoking habit. Over time, it had become a heavy reliance.

She had recently been reading up on pregnancy precautions and had grown to hate the smell of smoke. "Ashton, can you please put that out?"

Ashton raised an eyebrow, took a few more drags, and crushed it out. He then reached out, wrapping an arm around her to pull her in for another kiss.

Did he have some sort of kissing deprivation syndrome? Furious, Sylvia snapped, "Aren't you going to keep Reina company?"

Ashton paused. His thumb brushed over her damp, flushed lips, his tone careless. "What does it matter to you whether I see her or not? Do you care? Are you jealous?"

Sylvia's body stiffened, a look of utter humiliation in her eyes. "What do you take me for? You already have a fiancée. You said we were over. You were the one who dumped me! What do you want from me now?!"

Something in her words triggered a shift in him. His breathing grew heavy, and his tone turned razor-sharp. "So what if we broke up? Even if I get married, you're still going to be my mistress."

He was an absolute bastard.

And he wasn't even trying to hide it.

Sylvia's heart turned into a barren wasteland. She couldn't believe she had ever loved a man like this. Large tears began to stream down her face.

Ashton pulled her into his chest, gently kissing the tears from the corners of her eyes. "Why are you crying?"

It sounded like a reprimand, yet also a soft murmur.

He picked Sylvia up, kicked the bedroom door open, and tossed her onto the plush mattress.

Ashton began to unbutton his shirt, his intentions painfully clear.

"Ashton, please don't do this to me..."

Knock, knock, knock.

A frantic knocking echoed from the door. It had to be Mrs. Zane.

Unless it was an absolute emergency, she would never dare interrupt at a time like this.

Ashton took a deep breath, stood up, and adjusted his clothes. He casually tossed a light blanket over Sylvia and opened the door.

"What is it?" His voice was thick with unfulfilled desire and heavy with irritation.

Zelda immediately reported, "Mr. Winslet just called. He said Ms. Winslet had a breakdown and took sleeping pills. She's in the hospital right now being resuscitated!"

Ashton's eyes narrowed sharply. "Got it."

"I'll head over right now."

Ashton left without leaving Sylvia a single word. He didn't offer so much as half an explanation.

Then again, why would a master ever need to explain himself to a caged bird?
