Sylvia lived a semi-isolated life on set. Julian carved out time to visit her every single day, and eventually, the entire crew silently agreed they were a couple.
Having cut ties with Ashton, Sylvia assumed they would never cross paths again.
They simply didn't belong to the same world.
That was until Valerie Logan called Sylvia, frantically complaining that Hugo hadn't come home for days.
Sylvia's heart sank. She dialed Hugo's number. It rang five or six times before a whiny, flirtatious female voice answered, "Who is this?"
Sylvia coldly demanded to know where Hugo was. The woman on the other end let out a scoff. "Hugo is having a blast. He doesn't have time for you."
She clearly mistook Sylvia for a desperate fling demanding money.
Hearing the clinking of glasses in the background, a dreadful suspicion crept into Sylvia's mind.
She tracked down the director, shuffled the schedule to shoot her scenes early, and immediately hailed a cab. She told the driver to head straight to The Reign.
Sylvia was wearing a cream, sleeveless jacquard dress with a chic, cropped tweed jacket, giving her a remarkably fresh and relaxed elegance.
The club was deafeningly loud and packed with people. Seeing the familiar neon lights, Sylvia hesitated for a split second before weaving through the crowd. She tracked down the shift manager and demanded to know where Hugo was.
The manager recognized Sylvia. He hesitated before finally revealing the VIP room number.
"He's been crashing there for days."
Sylvia's stomach dropped. The clientele at The Reign were exclusively the filthy rich. The VIP rooms had a steep minimum spend—you couldn't even walk in without dropping at least fifteen thousand dollars, and blowing fifty grand a night was entirely standard.
From the manager's tone, it sounded like Hugo hadn't left once.
She took a steadying breath, marched up to the room, and pushed the door wide open.
The room instantly fell dead silent.
Hugo, heavily intoxicated, squinted at her. "Sylvia, you're here! Hurry, Ashton was just missing you."
He grabbed Sylvia's arm, trying to violently shove her toward Ashton, who was sitting off to the side.
Ashton was slouched in the darkest corner of the booth, a cigarette pinched between his fingers. His expression was dangerously bored, exuding a dark, ruinous charm. Seeing Sylvia walk in didn't trigger the slightest shift in his features.
Beside him, Luke Zane reflexively called out, "Hey, you're here. Come on, sit over here."
The moment the words left his mouth, he realized his mistake. The two of them had reportedly broken up.
Growing up, Valerie had always prioritized Hugo, spoiling him rotten and molding him into a brutally selfish parasite. His things were his, and Sylvia's things were also his.
Because that was just the way it was.
Sylvia's eyelashes fluttered. When she looked up again, her gaze was lethally calm and completely detached.
"Did you not realize we broke up?"
"Do I owe you anything? You just love drinking that much, don't you?"
Luke had been about to step in and calm her down—Hugo was technically her brother, and having a few drinks wasn't a felony. But seeing Ashton refuse to even spare them a glance, making it brutally clear he couldn't care less, Luke wisely decided to keep his mouth shut.
Sylvia snatched a bottle of red wine off the table, yanked out the cork, and dumped it directly over Hugo's head.
Drenched in crimson liquid, Hugo violently wiped his face. "What the hell are you doing? Are you out of your mind?!"
Sylvia stared at him, utterly expressionless. "If you love it so much, have some more. Isn't this what you wanted?"
She sat on the edge of the sofa and hit the service bell. A waiter rushed in seconds later.
Sylvia didn't miss a beat. "Bring ten bottles of pure vodka. My brother needs to rinse his mouth."
