You Had Me, You Lost Me, You'll Never Find Me novel Chapter 143

Seeing Sylvia approach, she spoke into the phone, "Something came up, I'll call you back."

She gave Sylvia a brief nod. "Ms. Harlow, I presume? Please, sit."

Sylvia offered a polite bow and took her seat.

Harriet scrutinized the young woman from head to toe. The girl possessed a luminous, porcelain complexion and striking almond eyes. A tiny beauty mark near the corner of her eye added a vibrant charm to her face.

Despite being pregnant, her figure remained delicate. Her eyes carried a naive innocence, making her look like a cheerful little sparrow outside the window, happily chirping away without a care in the world.

No wonder she had her son completely mesmerized.

Harriet inherently disliked girls of this type. She had arrived armed with prejudice, and her opening words were distinctly lacking in warmth:

"Ms. Harlow, I am only here today to discuss my son, Julian. Even though he spent years studying abroad, his worldview remains incredibly narrow—especially when it comes to women. He clearly lacks judgment. He acted on impulse by proposing to you publicly, but I assure you, our family was neither informed of nor accepts this engagement."

"The Sterling family holds strict standards. When we evaluate a young woman, character is paramount. I won't delve into the scandals surrounding you online, but the very fact that you constantly attract such drama proves you are a magnet for trouble. The Sterlings have no room for a girl like that."

Sylvia's posture stiffened instantly. She had come with nothing but sincere intentions, completely unprepared for Harriet's blistering bluntness.

Harriet had always been an incredibly proud woman. Julian had been a constant source of prestige for her, which only fueled her aristocratic arrogance. In her mind, only a woman from a prestigious lineage was fit to stand beside her son.

To her dismay, after years of being picky, Julian had settled on a girl like this—one who was even pregnant out of wedlock. It naturally left a bitter taste in Harriet's mouth.

"Furthermore, I've looked into your background. Even if your personal character was flawless, your family background and education fail to meet my standards."

"I am aware you cannot choose the family you are born into, but you can't deny that it is a fundamental factor to consider for marriage. Aside from that, Julian paid off your family's debts. He has been more than generous to you. And yet, because of you, he has incurred the wrath of that lunatic from the Wyatt family. Are you truly ignorant of the war currently being waged between them?"

Take the child and leave the mother out of the picture. She made it sound so effortless.

Sylvia stared at the blank check, a bitter, incredulous smile tugging at her lips. Her primary motivation for marrying Julian had been the child in the first place. How could she possibly abandon her own baby?

She reached out and picked up the check. A satisfied smirk ghosted across Harriet's face.

But then, Sylvia calmly ripped the check into shreds.

She raised her head, her gaze locked firmly onto Harriet's.

"I'm sorry. Unless Julian tells me it's over, I am not leaving him."
