As he spoke, he slammed his foot on the gas, sending the car surging forward at a terrifying speed.
Sylvia watched in sheer horror as he aggressively wove through the traffic. "Slow down!"
Ashton merged into the fast lane. Seeing the road ahead was completely empty, he glanced over at Sylvia's pale, frightened face and offered a mocking smirk. "This is my speed."
Despite the arrogant claim, he shifted to the left lane and eased off the accelerator.
They soon arrived at The Summit.
He had reserved a prime spot on the observation deck. The hostess led them upstairs to a table that offered a breathtaking, panoramic view of the glowing city skyline through the floor-to-ceiling windows. From this specific angle, they also had a perfect, unobstructed view of the diners on the floor below.
It didn't take long for Sylvia to realize exactly why Ashton had brought her here.
Directly below them sat Julian. He was dining across from a woman in a stunning champagne-colored gown. The atmosphere at their table seemed incredibly warm, and they were deep in an engaging conversation.
The woman looked highly educated and elegant, projecting a refined grace. Paired with Julian's sophisticated charm, they looked like a picture-perfect match.
Sylvia's heart plummeted into her stomach.
Was this the dinner meeting Julian had mentioned?
Ashton took in her devastated expression without a word. He methodically served her food, poured her tea, and handed her napkins, playing the role of the excessively attentive partner.
Sylvia felt completely numb to the gestures. Everything tasted like ash. After two small bites, she set her fork down, the lump in her throat making it impossible to swallow.
Seeing her miserable state, Ashton frowned sharply. "Eating so little? You have the appetite of a bird."
Sylvia's eyelashes fluttered as she looked away. "I'm not really hungry."
Ashton knew her perfectly. He had brought her here specifically to expose Julian's 'true colors,' but seeing how deeply affected she was ignited a violently petty jealousy inside him. The more pain she showed, the more it proved she actually cared about Julian.
"Fine. If you won't eat, let's go downstairs and say hello to your old flame. What a wild coincidence this is."
A cruel sneer touched Ashton's lips as he made a move to stand up. Sylvia panicked and grabbed his arm. "What are you doing? Don't cause a scene!"
With an expression of pure, unbothered calm, Ashton peeled a shrimp and held it to her lips. "Open."
Sylvia looked at his face, then at the shrimp, and blankly opened her mouth. He methodically fed her over half the plate, only stopping when it was clear she genuinely couldn't take another bite.
Ashton leisurely wiped his fingers with a wet towel. Taking advantage of the moment, Sylvia slid off his lap, grabbed her purse, and retreated to the opposite side of the table.
She instinctively glanced downstairs. Julian's table was completely empty. A profound, unexplainable wave of loss and melancholy washed over her.
Ashton watched her secretly scanning the floor below. He sneered inwardly but didn't call her out on it. The entire point of bringing her here had already been accomplished.
"Full?"
Sylvia aggressively wiped her mouth with a napkin, refusing to answer. Her lips were completely coated in the oil from the food he had forced on her.
Ashton waited patiently for her to finish before slowly rising to his feet. He grabbed her hand and steered her toward the elevators. Sylvia dug her heels in. "Aren't we going back?"
