The warning in his eyes was unmistakable.
Sylvia gave a self-deprecating smile and followed behind them.
The two friends walking with Reina deliberately slowed down a step and began whispering to each other.
“Why do some people always dream about going from a sparrow to a phoenix?”
“Because they can't let it go. They used to be a phoenix once, and they can't handle the disappointment, so they're desperate to get their old life back.”
“So shameless. The guy is already engaged, and she's still throwing herself at him. If I were her, I'd find a hole and bury myself in it.”
They were speaking in thinly veiled insults, clearly meant for Sylvia to hear.
Sylvia just pretended not to hear them. She had heard enough slander of every shape and size to last a lifetime.
When they reached the private booth, the moment Ashton and Reina appeared, everyone started teasing them.
They had specifically saved two adjacent prime seats for the couple.
“I was wondering where Ash disappeared to after taking that phone call. Turns out he went out to pick someone up.”
“Running out the door the second he couldn't see her. I'm telling you, he's totally gonna be whipped after they get married.”
When Sylvia stepped into view, the lively atmosphere suddenly quieted down.
Luke looked a bit surprised. “Mrs.—I mean, Sylvia, you're here too. Have a seat, have a seat.”
He had almost used the wrong title, which would have been mortifying.
The others also showed mild surprise but didn't overthink it.
Sylvia sat down next to Julian and explained softly, “I was hanging out nearby, so I dropped by to bring you some milk.”
Milk was good for hangovers.
She lowered her voice. “Don't drink too much.”
Ashton leaned back on the sofa, his expression lazy and indifferent. He lit a cigarette, staring at her through the curling smoke with a hint of mockery in his eyes.
Sylvia accidentally met his gaze and quickly looked away, unable to handle the intensity.
The game instantly livened up the entire booth.
Truth or Dare could get wild, depending on how far people were willing to push it.
If someone chickened out, they just took the penalty drinks—at worst, they'd end up wasted.
In no time, the crowd had egged several couples into doing outrageous challenges, like the girls sitting on top of the guys while the guys did one-handed push-ups, driving the energy in the room higher and higher.
Sylvia managed to get lucky a few times, but she eventually rolled a penalty and was dared to kiss Julian.
Since they were a couple anyway, there was nothing to shy away from. The crowd jeered relentlessly, giving them absolutely no room to refuse.
“Kiss! Kiss! Kiss!”
