You Had Me, You Lost Me, You'll Never Find Me novel Chapter 117

“Besides, medical resources aren't like other industries. They have to pass strict verifications at multiple levels. No one is going to bend the rules just as a favor, so you can rest easy.”

Hearing Julian's explanation, Sylvia finally relaxed a little. She didn't really understand the dealings between these elite families; she had only asked out of her wariness toward Ashton.

“That's good. Then I guess I was just overthinking it,” she said, her cheeks flushing slightly.

Julian smiled warmly. “Not at all. You were just worried about me.”

He then added, “You haven't been looking too well lately, and I've been short on time. I'm going to have Nanny Mabel come over and make some nourishing soup for you. She's an incredible cook. I learned from her, but my cooking doesn't even come close.”

Nanny Mabel had been with the Sterling family since Julian was born. She made incredible comfort food, and Julian had practically been raised on her rich, coastal-style soups.

“If it's too much trouble, you really don't have to,” Sylvia felt she didn't deserve such royal treatment.

Sensing her slight discomfort, Julian said, “It's not trouble at all. I'm just worried you might find her annoying. She's getting older and likes to nag. Plus, she's not in the city right now, so it'll be a couple of days before she can come over.”

Since he put it that way, Sylvia stopped declining.

The next day, Julian went to his appointment, but Sylvia didn't go. She already had trauma associated with places like The Reign and had zero desire to go there, let alone be around Ashton.

But, as if on cue, Ashton called her. Sylvia ignored it twice, but he kept calling.

Since she currently owed him money, she couldn't just block him like she used to, so she braced herself and picked up.

“Are you really not coming?”

Ashton's low, raspy voice sounded calm and indifferent on the other end of the line.

But Sylvia could tell he was in a terrible mood.

“I told you I'm not going...”

She kept her voice low, terrified he would actually go completely off the rails.

The background noise grew louder, and she could even hear the clinking of glasses.

“How interesting.” Ashton raised an eyebrow. “You owe me money and you're still acting this arrogant? Doing whatever you please... Who exactly is the creditor here?”

“Since when does anyone owe Ash money and not pay it back? You've gotta be kidding,” someone asked, half-curious, half-probing.

Ashton smiled faintly, though his eyes remained emotionless. “People who owe money are the ones in charge these days. I have no choice but to indulge her. I'll just go find her.”

He actually started walking toward the door.

A guy named Quinn Howard sat there with his legs crossed, looking puzzled. “How much money could she possibly owe to make Ash care this much?”

Someone beside him laughed. “You really can't tell? It's probably one of his little side pieces.”
