Chapter 215
Connor cleared his throat before starting.
“I won’t mention any names, but a certain heir–the son of a very influential family–once got into a horrible car crash. It was all over the news for a while, but no one could determine whether the boy had survived or not as the family refused to disclose any information.”
His eyes flicked up, meeting Felicity’s as if gauging her reaction.
“Overnight, the family’s stocks took a sharp plunge. In an attempt to salvage their company, they had to come out to make a statement, declaring the boy was fine, only suffering a few injuries. But their words were not enough. People weren’t reassured and wanted to see him for themselves.”
“You see, the boy was the sole heir and CEO of the family’s company,” Connor explained. “If anything had happened to him, the family’s fortune would have been in jeopardy. Naturally, the shareholders were anxious for any news of the boy’s well- being.”
“True to their word, the family staged a press conference a week later, where the boy appeared in his hospital room, looking fit and well on his way to recovery.”
“But how could he possibly have recovered so quickly?” Felicity pressed, her eyes narrowing in skepticism. “There is no he didn’t suffer any major damage from the accident.”
“That’s where the foul play came in,” Connor leaned in, his voice merely a whisper. “Unbeknownst to the public, the true heir was in a coma but his family hid it from the world.”
“Then who was the person they showed to the world?” She asked. “Don’t tell me they forced someone to have plastic surgery to look like their son?”
Connor shook his head. “No. The heir’s father had an illegitimate child that no one knew about who looked quite similar to his legitimate son. All they had to do was tweak some things with makeup and they looked almost the same.”
“They switched their son,” Felicity was impressed. Whoever brought that idea was terrifyingly cunning. “I’m sure someone must have noticed the difference up close.”
“Nobody did. The charade continued for a full year until their son finally woke up from his coma and took his rightful place,” Connor explained, a hint of awe in his voice. “The illegitimate son took on the role of his half–brother, never setting foot in the office, working from home, and making only carefully orchestrated appearances on camera. The family’s tight circle of confidants kept the secret close to their chests, and no one outside of that circle was any the wiser.”
“Wow! That’s extreme. It’s mind–blowing,” Felicity said, shaking her head in amazement. She realised her Dad must have been among the tight circle of confidants for him to have known about this.
Connor nodded grimly. “Heir swapping is more common than most people think. Families, especially those with substantial ⚫fortunes to protect, will do whatever it takes to preserve their power and standing. No one would suspect a thing if a child
went missing, not when there was another one to replace him.”
Felicity sank into her thoughts. In Kagen’s file, he had mentioned that his identity was stolen. Could it be possible that he was switched as a child? Or replaced?
The thought made her stomach twist. Humanity was depraved. No wonder many children grow up to be troubled. They’re raised in a world where their lives pawns in a game of power.

“That’s sick,” Felicity’s face contorted disgust before easing into a smile. “At this rate, I wonder if I’m your legitimate child.”
Connor gave her a nasty side–eye before making a swing. “You want to do a DNA test?”

“I was joking!” She exclaimed, her smile now tinged with satisfaction as her ball rolled neatly into the hole.
“Well done!” Connor congratulated, his hand finding hers in a high–five before moving for his own shot.
“Have you ever suspected that any child had been replaced?” Felicity questioned further.
“I suspect it every day. But there was actually no way of knowing”
“You must have noticed a difference. Even a tad bit.”

“I’m not a pedophile, Felicity.” His tone betrayed a weariness from the incessant questioning. “I don’t scrutinise a child for changes when I meet them. And even if there were any changes, people would just write them off as growth.”

Noticing her dad’s irritation, Felicity decided to let the matter drop. He had given her enough and she didn’t want to ruin his mood. So she decided to focus on her game but she heard him murmur.
“But there was this child…” He whispered faintly.
“What child?” Felicity pounced on his slip of the tongue, a hint of urgency in her voice.
Connor shook his head, trying to dismiss his own words. “It’s nothing,” he said, but his hesitation betrayed the fact that he was hiding something.
“Well, there was this one boy,” he admitted, his gaze drifting to the horizon, a distant, pensive look in his eyes. “His family was always parading him around at events, but then suddenly, he disappeared for two years. When he started attending events again, I thought there was something wrong about him. You were still young then.”
“What was wrong? And which family was this?” Felicity’s heart raced with hope that this may be the answer she was searching for.
“It was…” he began, his tone hesitant.
Just then, a familiar voice cut through the air, a sudden interruption that startled them both. “Fancy seeing you here, Mr. and Miss Orion,” the voice drawled, oozing with faux friendliness. “Or should I call you Mrs. Elsworth now?”
Felicity winced at the interruption and her fists clenched tightly around her golf club. The urge to kill the intruder was overwhelming and it only multiplied when she recognized their voice.
As she turned, her gaze locked on the familiar face, every muscle in her body tensed in anger. His face had been scarce for the past month. Her lips twisted to that of utter disdain.
“Caster Walker, in the flesh. Aren’t you too broke to be in a place like this?”
