Chapter 109
It was late in the afternoon when Connor finished going through the recordings. As the day wore on, Connor meticulously reviewed the recordings provided by the staff members. Helen had been right; none of the maids had entered the kitchen. while Patricia prepared the snacks.
Connor then ondered a thorough search of the house. If someone had indeed poisoned him, there must be some remnants of evidence left behind.
During the search, a stranger arrived at the house, causing Connor to raise an eyebrow. “Who are you?” Connor asked the man as he approached the entrance.
Tm Doctor Maxwell, a veterinarian,” the man introduced himself. “I was informed that your dog died under unusual circumstances. I’ve come to inspect the body.”
A doctor? He hadn’t called for one. Maybe the guard did, he thought.
Connor nodded, leading him to the garden where Billy’s lifeless form remained. Maxwell gasped upon seeing the body, crouching down to inspect it.
Tve never seen anything like this,” he muttered, brow furrowed. “It’s definitely poison. Who would mercilessly poison a dog?”
Connor sighed. “That’s partially my fault,” he admitted, unwilling to divulge the dark secrets of their household to an outsider. This was a big household, after all. A scandal would be detrimental to the company. “Do you know what type of poison it might be?”
“I can’t be certain, but it’s clearly lethal if it killed poor Billy so swiftly,” Maxwell replied with a heavy sigh, rising to his feet. “I’ll have forensics run some tests and get back to you. I’ll take my leave now.”
As Maxwell departed, Connor rejoined the search efforts in the mansion. Helen approached him, holding a small bottle- the same one Rebecca had given to Felicity previously.
“This was found among Madam’s belongings,” Helen explained. “I believe this is the poison she used.”
Connor snatched the bottle, a grim expression crossing his face. It was a dark green vial, a translucent liquid swirling within. He turned to Patricia, voice hard. “What is the meaning of this?”
Patricia, equally perplexed, stuttered, shaking her head in denial “Connor, you have to believe me. That’s not mine. I’m being framed. Everyone in this mansion is trying to frame me. This is Felicity’s doing, can’t you see?”
The tense atmosphere within the mansion was suffocating, the once-beautiful home now a prison for all those involved in this web of deceit. As Connor stared into Patricia’s pleading eyes, his thoughts turned to the evidence mounting against her.
Overcome with anger, Connor yanked her arm. “Framing you? Didn’t you just watch the recordings? Everyone was doing their jobs all day. How could they have framed you?” He yelled, “And how dare you drag my daughter into this? Do you think Felicity would poison me to frame you? Her own father?!”
“I-I don’t know,” Patricia stammered, her eyes wide with fear. She was stumped for words. She knew deep down that Felicity was behind this. How could Patricia explain to Connor that his daughter did this? He would never believe her. That **h had finally trapped her.
But still, desperately, she thought of another way to escape. She just had to come with something. Deep in thought, Connor’s next words made her freeze in place.
“Why did you try to make me relinquish my right to the company at the hospital?” Connor demanded, finally voicing the question that had been haunting him.

Patricia) rigs widened further, terror flashing across her face. “W-What?” Blood drain from her face. How did he find out abour that? She had thrown those papers away.
A wicked grin spread across Connor’s lips. “You think I wouldn’t know? Was that the plan? Kill me and take my company,
“It’s not what it looked like,” Patricia said desperately, trying to escape the situation.
“Then what did it look like?” Connor pressed, his voice hard and demanding.
Looking into her brother’s eyes, dread filled Patricia’s stomach. There really was no getting out of this, was there? Had she worked so hard all these years only to end up like this? No, it wasn’t supposed to end like this.
“After everything I did for you!” Connor seethed through gritted teeth, hurt flashing through his eyes. But to his surprise, instead of feeling remorseful, Patricia suddenly started laughing.
Her shoulders jerked as a boisterous sound escaped her lips. Looking at Connor, her mouth twisted into a sneer. “What have you done for me, you devil?” she spat at him with a glare. Since she had been caught, there was no need to keep up the facade anymore.
Connor looked taken aback by her reaction. “What?”
Drawing closer to him, Patricia repeated, her voice filled with spite, “I said, what have you done for me? You ruined my life! Stop acting like a saint, Brother, I did a vile thing? I was only trying to protect myself and my daughter!”
“What are you talking about?” Connor asked, confusion and disbelief warring in his eyes.
Patricia took a deep breath before pushing him away from her. Connor stumbled a few steps back, dazed.
Patricia pointed an accusing finger at him. “You’re the reason my life is miserable. You’re the reason I fell so much. You turned and treated me like a beggar. I would have had so much more if it wasn’t for you and your cursed father.”
“You dare bite the hand that fed you,” Connor retorted, his voice trembling with anger. “If not for my father, you and your mother would have died in the slums. We gave you everything you have today – the Orion name, the comfortable life you’re living.”
“You gave me nothing!” Patricia screamed, her chest heaving in anger. “All you did was flaunt your wealth in our faces for years, and when it was time, you forced me into a marriage I despised. I could have achieved so much more. I could have been swimming in wealth now. You ruined me, so it’s only right ruined you too!”
A heavy silence hung in the air, the tension palpable in the room, along with a cloud of mystery and suspense.
“Patricia, dear. Don’t you remember?” Connor said, his voice low and dangerous, “You ruined yourself.”
