Underwater: The Silent Luna novel Chapter 297

Chapter 297

Boris reported to Sebastien’s office immediately, and from the stiffness of his shoulders, he already knew the summons was not

friendly. He entered with the caution of a man walking into a room where punishment might be waiting, but he still carried that

stubborn confidence that always irritated Sebastien. Boris was too used to answering to another man. Too used to believing he could

act in Ceenas without explaining himself. Too used to thinking Sebastien’s authority was only for show.

Sebastien watched him in silence for a moment, letting the weight of the room settle. He was angry, but anger could not be the firs

thing to leave him. Not with Boris. Not with men who looked for weakness and measured every reaction. He did not call all the

shots here, and that truth burned in his chest more than he wanted to admit. Boris answered to the nameless Alpha, and that made the situation more delicate than it should have been. If this were fully Sebastien’s pack, what Boris had done would have been treated as mutiny without hesitation. A prisoner had been taken, hidden, starved and ignored under his roof, in his territory, and no

one had deemed it necessary to report it to him.

Worse, Boris had not even informed Alpha Malcolm, who had been around during the incident. It did not matter whether the woman was important or worthless. It did not matter if she had arrived crying at the gate or dancing like a mad woman. Things happened in Ceenas, and Sebastien was supposed to know. Boris had no right to decide what mattered and what did not. He had no right to lock someone in the cells and leave them there like an old sack of rubbish.

Boris stopped in front of the desk, staring too long before he finally lowered his gaze. It was a small thing, but Sebastien noticed it. He noticed everything these days. Men like Boris tested boundaries with their eyes before they tested them with their hands.

“Why did you lock a woman up for three days unattended, and why did you not deem it necessary to tell me?” Sebastien asked.

Børis looked worried then. Not sorry. Not exactly. Just worried that the matter had reached Sebastien and become a problem. That

alone made Sebastien’s anger sharpen.

“I did not think she was relevant,” Boris said. “She acted like a nuisance. She arrived at the gate demanding to see you. When I asked her to state her purpose, she said she wanted to join your pack, that she had left Whitewood and would never return there.”

Sebastien held his face still, but the mention of Whitewood made something in his mind pause. Whitewood. A woman had come all the way from Whitewood, demanding to see him, claiming she wanted to join his pack. That was not a small detail. That was not something to bury in the cells without even asking questions properly.

Boris continued quickly, as if he believed a longer explanation would make his decision look wise.

“Knowing the situation between you and Luna Cynthia, I decided that she might have nefarious reasons, so I took the initiative to lock her up. I tried to get her to state her reason for visiting, and she refused, insisting she wanted to see you.”

Sebastien stared at him. He could almost understand the suspicion. Almost. Cynthia had made his life poisonous enough that even her shadow could make men cautious. A woman coming from Whitewood could have been sent by her. She could have been bait, a spy, a desperate fool, or something worse. But suspicion was not permission to starve someone. It was not permission to hide a living being in a cell for three days without food or water. If Boris had been concerned, he should have informed him. That was the

difference between caution and cruelty.

“That still did not give you the right to starve her. I will take disciplinary action on this. You may answer to the boss, but as per our

agreement, this is my pack now, and everyone here answers to me,” Sebastien said, his command pushing into the room.

Boris became scared then. It showed in the sudden tension around his mouth and the way his shoulders lost some of their

arrogance. He had not seen what he did as overstepping. That was the problem. In his mind, he had handled a nuisance. In Sebastien’s mind, he had hidden something that belonged in front of him. A pack did not function when men beneath authority

started deciding which lives could be ignored.

Sebastien leaned back slightly, forcing himself to stay controlled. If he allowed the full weight of his anger out, Boris might understand the punishment but miss the lesson. And Sebastien needed more than fear. He needed obedience, even from men who

did not truly belong to him.

“Release the woman, give her a room and have the pack doctor and omegas attend to her needs. I will see her later,” Sebastien said.

Boris did not argue. He bowed his head slightly and left the office immediately to carry out the order. Sebastien watched the door close after him, and only then did he allow the mask on his face to slip a little.

He wondered who the woman was. A runaway. A spy. A desperate girl. A trap. The possibilities turned in his mind, and one ugly thought settled heavier than the rest. He hoped it was not someone Cynthia had sent to plead with him. He did not have the strength for that madness anymore. He was done with the roller coaster. Done with the poison. Done with the way Cynthia could pull him into chaos and somehow make him feel guilty for wanting peace.

He meant it. He was done.

Still, being done with Cynthia did not make him whole. His heart was not clean simply because he had finally walked away. He had had a chance at love once, a real one, and he had blown it because of the mission. Because of the cause. Because of the same darkness that kept demanding pieces of him until he barely knew what remained. Licking his wounds would not be enough. His heart was filled with regrets, and they sat there stubbornly, refusing to leave.

Sebastien remained at his desk with an emptiness he could never fill.
