Chapter 307
The anger that moved through Ethan was slow and deep. Not loud. Not careless. The kind that wanted names, faces, consequences. Meadow had grown up carrying cruelty from the people who should have protected her. Her mother had not simply failed her. She had damaged her. Her father had stood aside and allowed it, and silence like that was its own kind of violence.
“She never spoke to me or taught me anything; they treated me like a charity case and a burden. They did not love me then. If they could do away with me, they would have. I have only stayed away from them because I want to grant my mother her wish. I do not want to be the cause of her pain and her anguish anymore. I do not want to be the cause of her sorrow anymore,” she linked in
tears.
Ethan held her, pressing her close because words were not enough. How could she think of herself as the cause of anyone’s sorrow? How could anyone look at Meadow and see a burden? She was warmth. She was strength. She was the reason his life had colour
again.
“Why can’t I talk?” she cried through the link.
The question broke through him.
“I try to talk. Try to remember what stole my voice, but I am blank. I know I wasn’t born this way. I have memories of my time as a child when your father would pick me up because I had wandered into the park at night, but I can’t figure out why I have no voice anymore. I stayed up most of my teen years trying to solve the matter,” she confessed.
Ethan stroked her back, wishing he could reach into her memory and tear out the thing that hurt her.
“There were times when I would think deeply, and suddenly I would go blind, deaf and dumb before passing out. My parents said I did weird stuff whenever I passed out, but I would never know. It is as if I have two personalities; I do not know how to explain,
Ethan, but I feel fractured,” she linked.
Ethan pulled her even closer, not wanting her to say more. Her tears were hurting him too. He hoped they would get to the bottom of her predicament soon. Camila would begin therapy with her the next day, and he prayed there would be a breakthrough. He wanted Meadow free. Not just from silence, but from the shame other people had placed on her.
While he held her, his phone began to ring. Ethan took it from his pocket and saw an odd number. He did not recognise it, but he
answered anyway.
“Hello,” Ethan said, his tone deep and serious.
The person at the other end sighed before speaking.
“Hello, Ethan, it is me. Uncle Linus,” the man said.
Ethan froze. Linus was their father’s cousin, and Ethan had cut communication with him because the man hated his mother dearly.
Nothing good ever came easily from Linus.

Chapter 307
“I heard something happened to Whitewood, and someone took over the pack. I have called Amber to clarify, but her line is
switched off. Is everything alright?” Linus asked.
Ethan sighed. He did not know whether to shut the man down or accommodate him, but he chose caution.
“My mother is very ill and is in the hospital. The rumours are right. An anonymous Alpha took over our pack with the help of Alpha
Sebastien Kaminski and Cynthia Davids. Our warriors defected and thus gave us no fighting chance. The pack is under new
management now,” Ethan said, leaving out his mother’s progress.
“Where was Levi in all of this?” Linus asked scornfully.
Ethan closed his eyes briefly. Of course. Linus would always find a way to blame Levi.
“He fought and almost lost his life in the process,” Ethan said.
Linus laughed, and the sound made Ethan’s jaw tighten.
“And now, where is he?” Linus asked.
“In the hospital, watching over his wife as he should be,” Ethan said.
Linus growled.
“So, the rumours I heard of him being the new Alpha in charge of Westwood are lies?” Linus asked.
Ethan did not know how to avoid the question.
“No, Uncle,” he said.
The man cursed.
“That bastard. He fooled all of you. He took the pack right from under your noses. It is all Amber’s fault. I told her she had no business remaining as Luna when she married that traitor. If I did not know better, I would have said she planned to murder Cain
with her lover,” he said.
Ethan’s anger flared.
“I will watch it, Uncle,” Ethan warned.
Linus went silent for a moment.
“I am coming to the pack to visit,” Linus finally said.
Ethan did not want him around, especially now that Amber was recovering, but he knew Linus would not listen no matter what he
said. Refusing him would only make him come louder and angrier.

Chapter 307
“Okay, Uncle,” Ethan said.
Linus hung up.
Ethan stared at the phone for a few seconds, feeling the old irritation crawl back under his skin. He did not like the idea of Linus coming. The man had caused enough unnecessary distractions in the past with his need to prove Levi was the culprit in everything. Ethan and Joseph had always believed that if Linus had not done everything within his power to pin blame on Levi, they might have caught the real culprit years ago. They would not let him do it again. Ethan knew Levi had no hand in this. Unlike his uncle, he
