Chapter 295
Claire began to growl inside her, ready to fight, but Ashley knew in that instant that fighting would be foolish. There were too many
of them. They were too close. They had the advantage, and she was alone. Her wolf might injure one or two if she was lucky, but she
could not win. It killed her to admit it, but the man was right before he even said it.
“You can’t win this. Your wolf must be pretty stupid for you to think you can take us. Now hand over the key and follow them nicely
to the cells. I bet you can make a cosy home for yourself there,” the man said.
The insult burned, but the fear was stronger. Ashley swallowed, trying to push down the panic rising in her throat.
“Please let me see him. I just want to see him,” she pleaded.
“Many women like you have come around these parts wanting to meet the handsome Alpha. You won’t be the first, nor will you be
the last,” he said.
“I am not interested in him in that way. I just want to join his pack,” she emphasised.
The man looked her in the eye and smiled like he enjoyed her helplessness.
“You can do that in the cells away from the Alpha. See it as a free bed, food and accommodation,” he said.
He walked away, and the men moved in before Ashley could think of another argument. Silver cuffs snapped around her wrists, burning her skin at once, and she sucked in a sharp breath. Claire recoiled, her anger turning into pain. One guard took the truck keys from her, and another pushed her forward. Ashley looked back at the truck, and for the first time, real fear overwhelmed her. That truck had been her way out. Once it was taken, she had nothing. No food. No shelter. No safety. No proof that anyone would
even know where she was.
There was a real possibility they would lock her up and forget about her. Sebastien seemed like the busy kind, and if this guard did not tell him, then she would simply disappear into a cell. Her plan would die before it even began. She needed to create a ruckus. She needed more people to hear her. Maybe the noise would reach someone important. Maybe someone would tell Sebastien. Maybe she would still get the chance she came for. She knew she was banking on a lot of emptiness, but there was no better option left. If Sebastien saw her and reacted like this brute, then everything was hopeless anyway.
Ashley prayed to the Goddess while they marched her towards the pack house. She prayed hard, not with pretty words, but with desperation. She prayed the Goddess would help her achieve this good for Joseph. She kept her mind on him, on how happy he would be if she could crack the case for him. She imagined him looking at her with surprise, maybe even pride, and that thought made something stubborn rise inside her. She had not come all this way to vanish quietly because one guard decided she was not
worth reporting.
“Alpha Sebastien! Alpha Sebastien! I seek asylum!” she yelled at the top of her lungs.
The men cursed and tried to stop her, but Ashley twisted away with everything she had. Her hands were bound behind her back, so she had no balance, but she ran anyway. She stumbled, nearly fell, caught herself, and kept running while screaming. The silver burned her wrists. Her shoulders hurt. Her lungs scraped. But she kept yelling because her voice was the only weapon she had left.

Chapter 295
“Alpha Sebastien! I seek asylum!” she screamed again.
They caught up with her easily, but she fought with her whole body. She wiggled, kicked, twisted, and shouted as loudly as she could. The men were angry now. One of them tied a piece of cloth over her mouth to muffle her screams, pulling it tight until panic rushed through her. She tried to shout through it, but the sound came out broken and useless. They handled her roughly after that, shoving and dragging her towards the dungeon with no care for the way she stumbled.
The air changed when they took her down to the cells. It was colder there, damp and sour, with the smell of old fear trapped in stone. Ashley’s heart sank. One of the men dragged her to a cell and threw her inside. She hit the floor hard, pain shooting through her side. Before she could rise properly, he freed her wrists, stepped out, and locked the bars. Ashley pushed herself up and rushed
forward, wrapping her hands around the bars in anger.
The burn was instant.
