Chapter 281
For a moment, the club seemed to tilt. Luna Meadow McCloud. Hearing Meadow’s name said with respect, in public, while Cynthia stood there drunk and blocked from the VIP section, made humiliation rise so fast she almost choked on it. Meadow, the mute wife. Meadow, the woman Cynthia had dismissed. Meadow, the woman with Ethan’s mark on her neck. They recognised her. Not Cynthia.
Cynthia linked the warrior to come into the club.
“I will shut you down,” she threatened.
Mr Carlton did not flinch.
“Go ahead, but we are refusing you service, and I know the same goes for every establishment in town. Alpha Ethan dodged a bullet. As you know, I am an Alpha too, and I can challenge your anonymous mate,” Mr Carlton said.
Cynthia’s throat tightened.
“We all heard what you did to the River pack brothers and how you ruined Sebastien. He, too, has dodged a bullet. You are not wanted around here, Cynthia. You should leave,” he said.
She looked around, tears stinging her eyes.
How did she fall this low?
The warrior who brought her to the club had entered, but Cynthia knew there would be no winning if a fight broke out. Not here. Not with the owner being an Alpha breed. Not with the whole club watching and waiting to see whether she would make an even bigger fool of herself. Even drunk, even angry, she could see that this was not a battle she could win cleanly.
So she quietly decided to leave.
People laughed at her as she exited the club, and tears streamed down her cheeks before she could stop them. She kept walking, forcing herself not to turn around, forcing herself not to stumble, forcing herself not to beg the warrior beside her to make them stop laughing. She knew if she were with Sebastien, they would not dare. Sebastien would have made them regret it. He would have broken something, someone, anything, just to show that she was not to be humiliated.
Where the hell was this mysterious Alpha?
They returned to the mansion, and Cynthia headed straight to her room.
Once inside, she picked up her phone and placed a call to her boss. Her hands trembled a little, and she hated that. The man
answered.
“Cynthia,” he said.
She began to cry

Chapter 281
“Where are you?” she asked, completely forgetting herself.
There was a pause on the line, but she continued before he could respond.
“They don’t respect me, and I am lonely. I feel like a lackey. You said I was your Luna, yet I do not know your name. I..,” she said,
trying to find the words.
“Have you been drinking?” he asked.
Cynthia did not respond.
“If you do not feel up to it, let me know so I can send a replacement. I do not like people that whine. Am I clear?” he asked.
He hung up before she could answer him.
Cynthia stared at her phone in disbelief.
For a moment, she could not move. The room was too quiet, and the silence after the call was worse than the laughter at the club. She began to believe what Joseph and Ethan had told her. Lackey. Slave. Not a mate. Not a Luna in any real way. Just someone useful. Someone disposable. Someone the Alpha could replace the moment she became too noisy or too emotional.
She also knew he could have sent anyone else if that was the case, so why did he send her? If she was just another lackey of his, why send her and make her false promises? Why let her sit in Amber’s office? Why call her Luna at all? The questions went round
and round in her head until they made her dizzy.
“Be patient, Cynthia. You dug this hole. We just have to hope everything turns out well. We were better off with Sebastien…” Medley
said.
Cynthia shut her up.
There was no point dwelling on the matter. Thinking would not help. Regret would not help. Crying would not change anything. She was in this now, deep enough that even fear could not show her a safe way out.
She linked the highest-ranking warrior she came with, a Beta breed named Giles, and asked him to come to her room.
Giles arrived not long after, and she told him to lock the door. He did not know what she had summoned him to do, but he obeyed. Cynthia took off the bathrobe to expose her gorgeous body, then invited the Beta into her bed.
He willingly obliged.
Ethan returned home in the night and found that Meadow had negotiated the release of his people.
He was not happy.
His first thought was not relief, though relief came quickly after. His first thought was fear. What had Meadow given up? What had
Cynthia demanded? Ethan knew Cynthia was not a freebie person. Something always had to give where she was concerned. Cynthia

did nothing out of kindness, not unless she was distracted, drunk, desperate, or planning something. So when Keith told him the
prisoners had been released, Ethan’s mind went straight to Meadow.
He rushed to his room after speaking with Keith, who was equally worried.
The truth was that everyone Cynthia had locked up had been ready to rot in the cells, including Camila and Brad. They knew what was happening, and they were loyal to their Alphas. Even though they were grateful to be free, they wondered about the sacrifice their Alphas might have made to ensure their release. In a house ruled by threats, freedom rarely came without a price.
