Levi grumbled but knew Ethan was right. They needed him to operate from the inside. He held his peace and stopped packing his

bags. Reporting to Cynthia was inevitable.

“Hey, how are you two?” Ethan linked Keith.

He met silence.

Ethan frowned. He wondered what had happened to his friend. He had promised Meadow that Keith and Elaine would take over at the hospital, so he expected them to be reachable. Keith did not ignore him. Not unless something was wrong./

“Joseph, please check on Keith in his room when you get to my wing,” Ethan said, not wanting to go out in his wheelchair with

warriors watching every movement.

“Cynthia has everyone locked up. She will not release them until they promise to be loyal to her and her Alpha,” Joseph said.

He had heard Cynthia give the order that all of them be locked up when she sent the residents back into the house. Ethan cursed under his breath at what he heard. Cynthia was moving quickly. Not intelligently, perhaps, but cruelly enough to create fear. Locking everyone up until they promised loyalty was the kind of thing a desperate woman did when she wanted obedience without earning

Ethan decided to call Dr Rosenberg. The good doctor answered on the first ring.

“Dr, please have someone watch over my mother in the hospital. There is no one to send, and my wife has to come home,” Ethan

said.

He knew Meadow needed rest. He also hated that she was exposed at the hospital without their own people close by. But as soon as the words left his mouth, Ethan realised something else. He did not want Meadow in the house until they were sure of Cynthia’s intentions. The mansion was filled with hostile warriors. The staff and loyal residents were being locked up. Cynthia was unstable, arrogant, and eager to prove herself. Bringing Meadow into that before they understood the new rules might be dangerous.

“I will see what I can do about it and send Luna Meadow and her friend home,” Dr Rosenberg said.

Ethan thanked the doctor and hung up, then called his wife immediately.

Meadow answered the video call. She looked worried at first, as if she feared something had gone wrong, but when she saw Ethan on the screen, she relaxed a little. He hated that he was about to worry her again.

“I want you to go to your parents’ house. I will call you when it is safe to come home,” Ethan said.

Meadow froze.

Her parents were a huge part of her life that she had locked away. They never called, and they never tried to see her. They threw her away as if she was nothing. It was hard to get over that kind of treatment because it was not only rejection. It was abandonment. It

Meadow did not want to face them. Not tonight. Not because Cynthia had invaded her home. Not because danger made Ethan think it was safer to send her away. At the same time, she knew she had to listen to her husband. Besides, most of the good fighters in her set lived in that vicinity. She would have to go there eventually for the plan Joseph had given her. Still, the thought of being away

from Ethan tonight made her chest tighten.

She was not ready to see her folks yet, so she decided to plead with Ethan.

“I do not want to spend the night without you, Ethan,” she signed.

Ethan understood her. He could see it in her face before the signs even finished. The fear was not childish. It was not only romance either. They had just discovered each other fully as mates.
