Underwater: The Silent Luna novel Chapter 259

Chapter 259

Meadow rolled her eyes at Victoria’s eagerness to fight. That was Victoria. Fear could sit beside her, but the thought of finally using everything she had learned lit something in her. Meadow hoped deep down it would not come to war, but after everything that had happened, she believed it was inevitable. Cynthia would not leave quietly. The hidden Alpha would not stop because they asked, Whitewood had been attacked, poisoned, and humiliated. There would be a fight, whether they wanted one or not.

The men got home, and none of them bothered to see the new self-proclaimed Luna. That was deliberate. Cynthia wanted attention She wanted them to come to her, acknowledge her presence, and let her feel like the power she claimed had already taken root.|

They would not feed that hunger yet.

One noticeable thing was that there were warriors everywhere. At doors. In corridors. Near stairways. Outside the wings. Some were strangers. Some were traitors they recognised. Joseph felt irritated because the mansion no longer felt like home. It felt occupied. Watched. Breathing with other people’s authority. Every step inside made him want to turn, shift, and tear through the invaders until the house smelled like McCloud power again.

He knew he could take many of them, but they needed to wait for Ethan to regain full function of his legs. Fighting now could kill Ethan because he would be a sitting duck when they attacked him. Meadow might be strong, but they were limited. Their loyal fighters were few, some locked up, some absent, and the enemy had numbers. It was best to wait it out and attack once and for all. One clean, decisive strike when Ethan could stand and the right allies had been gathered. Until then, they had to swallow humiliation and let the enemy think they were winning.

Joseph packed some of his things from his room so he could temporarily move to Ethan’s wing. They could not afford to stay apart now because the enemy could strike anytime. Staying in the same wing would make it easier to protect one another, share information, and react if Cynthia or her hidden Alpha tried something foolish.

“I am moving to your wing,” Joseph linked Ethan.

Ethan was glad because he did not want to move to Joseph’s wing, but he knew they had to be in the same place for their safety.

“Have you seen Cynthia?” Ethan linked Levi.

Levi growled.

He hated the fact that he would have to answer to that woman. He hated it so much that he would rather be in the hospital beside his wife than in the mansion breathing the same air as Cynthia. Amber lay unconscious, and instead of sitting beside her, he had to play Alpha for a hidden enemy and listen to a power-hungry woman call herself Luna in Amber’s house.

But he knew he could not avoid speaking to Cynthia. The only reason Meadow and Victoria remained at the hospital instead of letting him watch over Amber was so he could resume the Alpha position he had been ordered into. They needed him in that role. They needed him inside the lie, moving close enough to the enemy’s instruction to understand where it came from.

“I am moving to your wing,” Levi said.

Ethan chuckled a bit.

Chapter 259

“You have to go to her and find out what she wants. You need to know why they want you to be the temporary Alpha. You have to

make it seem like we are no longer on good terms because I suspect that was exactly what the anonymous Alpha wanted to happen.

You have to remain in your wing to make it believable. It will buy us time and help us investigate from within. You also have to be a

bit reluctant to them, so your loyalty won’t be questioned when you finally give it,” Ethan instructed his stepfather.

Levi felt it was tedious. More than tedious. It felt like walking back into the kind of life he had never wanted. Levi had never wanted

to be Alpha before. Being Alpha had been Cain’s thing. Cain carried it naturally. Cain knew how to wear the burden, how to make

command look like breath. Levi liked being free. He liked making choices without a pack’s entire weight sitting on his neck. But he

had worn those shoes for ten years to protect the woman he loved, his friend’s legacy, and his friend’s sons.

Now he had to do it again.

This time, he could not even figure out why the enemy wanted it.
