Chapter 258
Levi looked at Joseph as if the words tasted bitter to him. The same man who had just accused him of trying to steal the pack was now telling him to step into the very role that had almost destroyed their trust. But Joseph was right. As much as Levi hated it, the enemy had placed him there for a reason. That reason could become their way in if they played it properly.
“I also feel it is odd that the anonymous Alpha will send Cynthia instead of Sebastien,” Levi said.
Ethan shook his head.
“It isn’t odd,” he said.
Everyone looked at him.
“The Alpha went with someone he could trust and control. Someone that would not usurp his power or authority. Sebastien might have done something to make him question his loyalty. Ceenas is nothing compared to Whitewood, so he sent Sebastien to Ceenas to get him out of the picture,” Ethan said.
Everyone paid attention. It made sense. Cynthia was ambitious, but she was easier to control because she was desperate for approval and status. Sebastien had pride, strength, and his own agenda. A man like that could become a problem if given Whitewood. Cynthia, on the other hand, would enjoy the illusion of power while answering every command like a starving woman being fed
crumbs.
“I do not know much now, but we will discuss further later,” Ethan said.
Then he looked at Doctor Rosenberg, who was still shocked and dumbfounded by everything he had heard and witnessed. The poor man looked like he had walked into a family confession, political collapse, donor crisis, and war council all at once.
“Intensify the search for a donor,” Ethan told him.
All the doctor could do was nod.
Victoria and Meadow remained at the hospital while the men returned to the estate to finish their business with Cynthia. Ethan promised to send Keith and Elaine to the hospital to take over from Meadow and Victoria. Meadow did not like watching him leave again, especially with Cynthia and her warriors inside the mansion, but she understood why he had to go. This was no longer only about Amber. It was about the entire pack.
“Wow, that was explosive,” Victoria said after the men had left.
Meadow looked at her, confused.
“I meant everything that happened here is explosive,” Victoria explained.
Meadow nodded. Explosive was a mild word for it. Agnes had come to trade a liver for Levi. Levi had revealed a hidden daughter and years of blackmail, Joseph had nearly lost control. Ethan had rejected the only current donor. Amber remained unconscious. And

Chapter 258
outside the hospital, Cynthia was sitting in the McCloud mansion calling herself Luna. If Meadow thought about all of it at once,
her head would hurt.
“Is that why you look flushed?” Meadow signed.
Victoria touched her cheeks with her palm, suddenly embarrassed.
Meadow’s eyes narrowed with teasing interest. She had noticed everything. Even in the middle of secrets and shouting, Victoria’s
reaction when Joseph had sat beside her had not escaped her.
“I saw the way you were acting when Joseph sat beside you. You are among those crushing on the Alpha,” Meadow teased through
her signs.
Victoria shook her head immediately, too fast to be convincing.
“He is more of the Ashley type,” Victoria answered.
Meadow smiled.
“Do not be quick to judge,” Meadow signed.
Victoria went silent. She was secretly embarrassed that Meadow had caught her. Joseph was not someone she had allowed herself to think about in that way. He belonged in the category of powerful people, distant people, people who carried danger and responsibility around them like a second skin. But when he sat beside her, when his body vibrated with Alpha anger, when she had felt the force of him so close, something inside her had reacted before she could bury it.
“Anyway, we have the training to do, and we need to gather the best fighters in our set that did not get selected by Beta Adam to join the warriors,” Meadow signed, remembering the assignment Joseph had given her.
Victoria’s expression changed at once. The teasing faded, replaced by alertness.
“Are we going to war?” Victoria linked Meadow, not wanting an eavesdropper to hear what they discussed.
Meadow looked at Amber for a moment before answering.
“I hope not, but it seems like it,” Meadow signed.
Victoria beamed at her.
“I was wondering when we could get to practise certain skills,” she said.
