Chapter 257
The room shifted immediately. Victoria gasped softly. Meadow stiffened. Dr Rosenberg’s face hardened in outrage. Levi’s eyes
darkened, and Ethan’s fingers tightened on the arm of his wheelchair. But Joseph reacted first. His body vibrated beside Victoria, his
wolf pressing forward with such force that Victoria became scared too.
“Get out! You better hope nothing happens to her, or I will come for you,” Joseph said with his command.
Agnes shook with fear. The command hit her hard enough to make her body tremble. It was not just anger. It was Alpha authority, sharp and undeniable. For a moment, all her bitterness meant nothing. She was only a wolf under the force of an Alpha’s warning.
“Calm down, Joseph,” Ethan said to his brother, looking at Agnes, who was visibly afraid.
Ethan understood Joseph’s anger. He shared it. No one wished death on his mother in front of him and walked away with dignity. But they could not lose control here. Not in the hospital. Not while Amber still lay between Mfe and death.
“What he said. Now leave,” Ethan said.
Agnes did not argue. She quickly walked out of the room, her pride shattered enough that even her anger could not make her stay. The door closed behind her, and the silence that followed was heavy.
Levi moved closer to Amber and stroked her hair. His touch was gentle, almost reverent. The kind of touch a man gave when he was terrified that the person beneath his hand might disappear if he pressed too hard. His eyes shone, and for a moment, all the hard things about him fell away. He was not the Alpha named by an enemy. Not the stepfather under suspicion. Not the man who had kept secrets. He was just a husband afraid of losing his wife.
“What do we do now?” he asked, afraid for her life.
He was not ready to say goodbye, and everyone knew it. Left to him, he would rather suffer with Agnes than bury Amber. He would rather walk into a loveless bargain and let Agnes call it victory if it meant Amber opened her eyes again. That was the terrifying part of love. Sometimes it made people willing to be destroyed if destruction meant the person they loved survived.
“We have to intensify our search,” Joseph said.
Levi wiped away his tears, but his hand shook slightly.
“How can we do all that with that bitch in our house claiming to be Luna? I do not know who the fuck her Alpha is and why he wants me to take charge. I am sick and tired of this bullshit. The man is a bloody coward. If not, he would have come out and faced us with his army,” Levi said, irritated.
No one argued with him. They all felt it. The cowardice of the hidden Alpha. The insult of Cynthia standing in their house. The humiliation of workers being locked up until they promised loyalty. The pressure of Amber’s dying body and Ethan’s healing body and Meadow’s fragile progress and the unknown enemy whose hand seemed to be everywhere but whose face remained unseen.
They were in a difficult situation, deep in water and confused. They were unaware of what to tackle and where to start. There was

just so much to do and little time. Amber needed a donor. Whitewood needed freeing. Ethan needed to heal. Cynthia needed to be handled. The workers needed protecting. The unknown Alpha needed identifying. Sebastien and Ceenas needed to be investigated. Their allies needed to be sorted. Every problem seemed urgent, and urgency made it harder to breathe.
“You have to assume your position as Alpha. That way, we can trace out Cynthia’s boss or mate. Whoever it may be. Clearly, it isn’t
Sebastien,” Joseph said.
Ethan agreed.
