Entering the office, Meadow stopped.

The woman inside the room made her blood go cold.

For a moment, Meadow forgot how to move. She was shocked and irritated at the same time, but she controlled herself. Her body

wanted to step back. Her mind wanted to demand why the woman was there. Her wolf stirred uneasily, not with the playful warmth

she felt around Ethan, but with old fear coming awake from a place Meadow had tried very hard not to touch.

The woman looked at her, daring her to speak.

She was just as Meadow remembered her from a few years ago. That alone unsettled her. Time had touched everyone else. Pain had changed faces, matured eyes, drawn lines where grief had stayed too long. But Agnes Thomas looked almost untouched. She had no wrinkles or fine lines. She looked young. Too young for someone tied to a past that still carried so much weight. Though she looked more mature than Meadow remembered, she was still a beauty. Blue eyes. Blonde hair. Smooth skin. A face that could make people

underestimate what sat behind it.

Meadow stared at the woman as if in a trance, and Dr Rosenberg’s voice snapped her out of it.

“You can mind-link me while you do sign language,” Dr Rosenberg linked her.

Meadow accepted.

It was not like Agnes understood sign language, and Meadow did not want her to know too much. If she had to react, she could hide the real conversation beneath her hands. That alone gave her some control.

What baffled Meadow was why Agnes was at the hospital on the same floor Amber was on. She wondered what the woman was doing there. Had Amber’s condition emboldened her? Did she come because she had heard the Luna was weak? Did she have something to do with the poisoning? The thought slipped in darkly before Meadow could stop it. After all, Amber had been poisoned slowly, quietly, by someone with access or knowledge. And now Agnes had appeared at the very hospital where Amber lay fighting

for her life.

“Luna Meadow, this is Agnes Thomas. She is the donor Beta Levi brought. She has offered to donate part of her liver to Luna Amber. She claims she is O negative, which will be a good match for Luna Amber’s B negative. Still, I have not been able to reach Beta Levi for his consent to proceed with the compatibility tests,” Dr Rosenberg explained.

Meadow’s stomach twisted.

She was mad and disgusted that Levi would bring Agnes to save Amber’s life. Agnes. Of all people. The woman from the past. The woman connected to a memory Meadow had buried so deep that seeing her now made it claw its way back up. Meadow knew instantly that if Amber knew who was donating the liver to her, she would reject it. Amber might be dying, but she was proud enough to choose death over a gift that came wrapped in humiliation. Especially from Agnes.

“I doubt Luna Amber would want any of this,” Meadow linked the doctor without signing.

Dr Rosenberg frowned.

“At this point, this is the best option,” the doctor linked her back, speaking frankly.

Meadow looked away from Agnes. She knew he was right, and she hated that he was right. Pride did not matter when a woman’s life

hung by a thread, but Amber’s pride was not small. Amber’s history with Levi was not simple either. If Agnes was the only hope.

then hope had come with teeth.

“Call my husband. He should be with him,” Meadow linked the doctor and signed the words with her hand.

Dr Rosenberg nodded, pretending he understood the sign language well enough. Meadow knew he did not catch all of it, but the link

carried the real meaning.

“I will do that,” he agreed, wondering why he had not thought of that in the first place.
