Levi remained on his knees on the ground, and for a moment, he did not even care that warriors and workers were watching. He did not care that Cynthia had just turned the compound into a show of power. He did not care that the people he had spent years protecting now saw him broken in the open like a criminal waiting for judgement. Everything Joseph had said to hint kept replaying

in his mind, each word cutting deeper the second time than it had the first.

He was angry. Deeply angry. Not the kind of anger that came from pride alone. It was the kind that came when love had been spat

“You better follow your Luna, Levi,” Ethan said to him, disgusted by him.

Levi lifted his eyes to both Ethan and Joseph. The disgust in Ethan’s voice landed hard because Ethan had not even heard everything yet, and still he had already decided to see him through the same ugly suspicion Joseph had thrown at him. Levi stared at them, and something inside him hardened, not because he stopped loving them, but because there were some wounds love could not cover

immediately.

“I carried you two when you were born. I raised you two with Cain and was there to fill that void when he was no more. I protected the three of you and never let you miss the absence of a father, and Amber missed the absence of her mate,” Levi said.

His voice was thick, but steady enough to carry the weight of all those years. He was not trying to sound innocent. He was speaking from a place deeper than defence. He was reminding them of a life they had somehow forgotten in one angry breath.

“I took care of everything Cain left you and handed it over when the time came. Never did I ask for payment. I did it all out of love. I did it because Cain was the brother I never had. I gave up on my life to fill his shoes, and this is how you repay me.”

Joseph’s jaw tightened, but he did not speak. Ethan’s expression shifted slightly, the first trace of uncertainty entering his eyes, but

he also remained silent.

“Had Cynthia offered any of your friends the Alpha position, would you have thought so low of them? Had she offered either of you the position, would you have thought so lowly of each other?” Levi asked them.

The question sat there between them, ugly and fair. Ethan looked away briefly, and Joseph’s anger twitched, but neither of them

answered.

“This Alpha, whoever he may be, understands how you think, so he picked the easy target, me, and you all fell for it,” Levi

continued.

His eyes were bloodshot now. His grief had turned into rage, and the brothers knew it. Ethan wondered what Joseph had said to him before he arrived because Levi looked more than insulted. He looked betrayed in a way that had reached his bones.

“Suddenly I am the culprit. Suddenly I did everything. I have asked you this, Joseph, what would have been my gain?” Levi said.

Joseph’s face hardened, but there was a flicker of shame underneath. He buried it quickly.

“You said I killed your father, poisoned your mother, caused Ethan’s accident and caused what has happened today all because/t wanted this pack. What would have been my gain, Joseph?” Levi asked.

Ethan was shocked that Joseph had gone that far. He turned to his brother, and the defiance in Joseph’s eyes told him immediately

that Levi was not exaggerating. Joseph had said those things. In front of Cynthia. In front of warriors. In front of the household. In

front of the man who had stood in their father’s place for most of their lives.

“She named him Alpha, Ethan. She said he would answer to her boss,” Joseph explained.

Ethan understood why Joseph’s mind had gone there. It was not a completely foolish assumption. Levi had left the hospital without

explaining himself. Amber had been poisoned. Their father’s death still had shadows around it. Levi’s wolf matched part of the

vague description they had from the witness. Cynthia’s Alpha had named him to run Whitewood. It was plausible enough to shake

any man who had already been drowning in suspicion.

Still, looking at Levi now, Ethan knew his brother had crossed a line.

“I am sure Joseph said those words in anger,” Ethan said, trying to douse the situation.

Levi shook his head slowly.

“He has been thinking it for a while now and has only voiced his opinion of me,” Levi said.

Ethan did not know how to douse the situation after that. There was no easy sentence that could take that kind of hurt back. Joseph had not only accused Levi. He had exposed a suspicion Levi now believed had been growing in them for a long time.

“If you are innocent, where did you go when you left the hospital? What were you doing if not negotiating with Cynthia’s boss?”

Joseph asked.

Levi bowed his head.

For a few seconds, he said nothing. He had kept a secret for so long that only Meadow knew of it and had dared not tell anyone. It had stayed locked inside him because some truths were too complicated to place before people who were already hurting. He had carried it quietly, planning, begging, trying to find a way to save Amber without breaking her heart before he had to. He was not ready to say everything now. Not here. Not with Cynthia’s mess still hanging over them and the wounds still open.

So he chose to tell them a part of why he had left.

He stood up from the ground and looked at the brothers. His eyes were tired, but his voice no longer shook.

“I went to find a donor for Amber,” he confessed.

They were speechless.

The words hit Joseph first His anger faltered. Ethan’s face changed completely. All the suspicion that had been driving the moment

suddenly had nowhere clean to stand.

“I knew what was happening to her and have been searching for a while now. She did not know. It was meant to be a surprise for her. You do not expect me to just sit around waiting for my wife to die. I had to do something. I had to make sure I did my best. Watching her in the hospital will not solve the problem. Had I known she was being poisoned, I would have requested someone to

take over from me,” Levi said.

Joseph felt ashamed.
