Underwater: The Silent Luna novel Chapter 241

Chapter 241

Everyone knew she was not joking. The warriors behind her shifted, some growling low, some grinning like they were hoping someone would test the threat. Joseph glanced at the workers on their knees and forced himself to remember them. Pride could get innocent people killed. Rage could become a weapon turned against the helpless.

“I am the new lady of the house. My Alpha owns everything and everyone in this pack. It has been absorbed, so it is best you accept your fate and play along, or we just kill you,” she said.

Joseph chuckled.

It was not because anything was funny. It was because if he did not laugh, he might do something unforgivable.

“He should come and possess the pack physically then,” Joseph said.

Cynthia smiled.

“He is too busy to waste his time on Whitewood. That is why I am taking over this pack just as Sebastien has taken over Ceenas. We answer to him, and you answer to us,” she said.

Joseph was surprised they had sent Cynthia to Whitewood instead of Sebastien. That was not what he expected. If Sebastien was the conqueror, if he had come with force and believed himself powerful enough to take over, why send him to Ceenas and leave Cynthia here? Was that how little they thought of him and Ethan? Did they believe Cynthia, of all people, could stand inside the McCloud mansion and bend it to her will because a few warriors followed her orders?”

He was going to show them.

Not today. Not loudly. But eventually.

“Don’t get it wrong, Joseph,” Cynthia said without his title so he would know he was no longer in charge.

The disrespect scraped against his skin, but he did not give her the satisfaction of reacting.

“Alpha will come, and he will take over the pack physically,” she assured him.

Joseph laughed again, this time with sharper mockery.

“Alpha what? Alpha can’t be his name now, can it?” Joseph asked.

Cynthia’s expression tightened. He saw it. She knew it sounded dumb, and he was right. She had come to impose the will of a man she could not even name.

“His name is none of your concern,” she said.

Joseph saw it in her eyes. He knew she did not know. That made the whole thing more ridiculous and more dangerous at the same

time. Cynthia had handed herself to an unseen master because he promised power. She did not know his face. She did not know his

name. She did not know the shape of the knife he held behind his back. Yet she had walked into Whitewood with warriors, calling

herself Luna.

“This must be a joke. You have done all this for a man you have never seen before, and you do not know? I used to think you were

smart, Cynthia, but I guess I gave you too much credit,” Joseph said mockingly.

“It is Luna Cynthia to you,” she corrected him.

“Respect is earned and not given. Make me earn your respect,” he said, looking at the warriors.

Then he looked back at her.

“Without their help,” he added.

Cynthia growled at him. It was instinctive, ugly, and embarrassed. Medley did not want to go head-on with Joseph, so she held back. and Joseph could feel it because Rex could smell it. There was fear there. Sense too, perhaps. Medley knew better than Cynthia. The wolf understood power where the woman understood ambition.

“Even Medley knows it isn’t a good choice to challenge me, Cynthia. Listen to your wolf. She won’t lead you astray,” he warned her.

Cynthia looked away from him.

For a second, her mask slipped. Only a second. Then she forced it back and continued like his words had not touched her.

“Anyway,” she continued.

Joseph waited.

“I am here to make some changes. Henceforth, I am the only recognised Luna of this pack. And Beta Levi will be the Alpha,” she said, pointing to Levi.

Joseph looked at his stepfather in shock.

The world narrowed.

For a moment, all the noise in the compound seemed to draw back. The growls, the whispers, the dust, the warriors, even Cynthia’s smile blurred around the force of that one statement. Levi would be the Alpha. Levi. Not Joseph. Not Ethan. Not even Sebastien.

Levi.
