Chapter 227
Dr Rosenberg told him his findings and his suspicions. He did not dress it up too much. There was no gentle way to say poison had likely been entering his mother’s body from home. No soft way to explain that Amber’s liver failure might not be an unfucky medical tragedy but a deliberate, slow attack. He told Ethan about the substances found in her first blood work. He told him about the second test showing nothing after she had been away from home and under hospital care. He told him why it suggested repeated exposure from within her daily environment.
Ethan was unsettled after he heard everything.
Unsettled was too small a word, but it was all his body could show at first. Inside, rage came alive so sharply that even Echo stirred harder. His mother had not simply been dying. Someone had been helping her die. Slowly. Quietly. Inside her own home. Under their noses. While she cooked plans for grandchildren and argued about Luna duties and walked around pretending she was fine, someone had been putting poison into her life little by little.
Dr Rosenberg requested that Ethan send someone to watch over Luna Amber so whoever was behind her predicament would not
finish the job at the hospital.
Ethan did not think it was necessary at first because Levi was there with her. Levi had been beside Amber. Whatever doubts Ethan and Joseph had about him, Ethan believed the man would protect her at least from immediate danger.
“Beta Levi is there. He will protect her,” Ethan confidently said.
“He left this afternoon and is yet to return,” Dr Rosenberg said.
Ethan became alarmed at once. Levi had left his wife’s bedside while she was in a coma. That did not sit right. Not now. Not after
this.
“What!” Ethan asked.
The authority in his voice came out before he could soften it. Meadow shook a bit against him because there was something in that tone, something deeper and more commanding than before. It was a sign that Echo was back even though he was silent. Ethan felt it too. The Alpha in him was no longer buried under silver and weakness. It rose quickly now when anger called it.
He gently caressed Meadow’s back to calm her down. His hand moved slowly over her skin, apologising without words for startling
her.
“Where did he say he was going to?” Ethan asked.
Dr Rosenberg could not answer.
“He said he wanted to take care of some important things,” the doctor said.
Ethan wondered what would be more critical to Levi than his wife. His first instinct was suspicion, but he held it back from becoming conclusion. Levi was complicated. He had always been complicated. But leaving Amber after everything, especially now

that poisoning was suspected, made Ethan’s mind darken.
“Very well then. I will send Beta Keith to watch over her tonight. I will be at the hospital tomorrow. I need a physiotherapist I can trust that will consult with me secretly. Can you arrange that?” Ethan asked.
The doctor could only think of his nephew in that moment because he did not trust anyone at the hospital. After Dr James, after the documents, after Amber’s suspicious test results, trust was no longer something he could hand out based on professional titles
“My nephew, Alex, will come to the mansion tomorrow,” Dr Rosenberg said.
Ethan thanked him and hung up the phone.
He linked Keith immediately.
“Keith, I need you to go to the hospital and watch my mother. The doctor has confirmed her condition was caused by gradual
poisoning. We do not want the people behind it to finish their job,” Ethan said.
Keith was alert at once. Ethan felt it through the link. No confusion. No delay. Only readiness.
“Okay, Alpha. I will be on my way,” Keith said.
They closed the connection.
Ethan relaxed a bit, but only a bit. There was no full relaxation after news like that. He told Meadow everything the doctor had told
him, and as the truth unfolded, Meadow sat up in complete shock. Her eyes widened, and her hand went to her mouth for a moment
as if she needed to stop a sound from escaping.
