Chapter 228
She wondered why anyone would do that to the Luna. Amber had enemies, yes. Power always attracted hatred. But to poison someone slowly inside her own home was a particular kind of evil. It required patience. Access. Familiarity. It meant the person pr people involved watched Amber weaken and kept going. They saw her cough, saw her tire, saw her visit the hospital, and still continued. That made Meadow’s skin crawl.
Hearing this made her decide certain things immediately.
“We need to temporarily lay off the kitchen staff. Elaine and I can handle the cooking. I might send for Victoria if things get a bit crazy,” she linked him.
Ethan listened carefully. Meadow’s fear did not make her freeze. It made her practical. He loved that about her.
“We also need to monitor our water,” she continued.
He watched her face as she thought through each point. Her brows drew together, her expression serious, her mind already moving through the house. Kitchen. Water. Staff. Meals. Bottles. Access.
“Instead of drinking the water from the faucet, we should buy bottled water, not in plastic bottles but in glass bottles, to be safe,”
she linked.
Ethan’s gaze softened a little. She was thinking of everything. Not only him. Not only herself. The family. The pattern. The possible method. The way to cut off access without making a dramatic announcement that would alert whoever was guilty.
“It would be a serious inconvenience, but it is the safest option,” she linked him.
She was thinking of preventive methods they could devise to stop whoever had poisoned Luna Amber from poisoning the rest of the family. Ethan agreed with the directive. It also meant it would be tedious, so he made adjustments quickly. Meadow and Elaine could not shoulder the entire mansion because of fear. That would wear them down. And if the entire kitchen staff were dismissed too suddenly, whoever was guilty might panic or run before they could be identified.
“How about you and Elaine just cook for us? That is me, Elaine, Keith, and Joseph, or we order takeouts. The rest of the house can prepare their meals. That would reduce the workload. Because other than the kitchen staff, we have other workers in the house. So we should maintain the kitchen staff; they will cook for the house residents, but they won’t handle our food anymore,” Ethan said.
Meadow smiled because she had not thought of the others in the house. Ethan’s solution made sense. It was controlled. Quiet. Practical. It reduced the risk without creating too much noise. The kitchen staff would remain, but access to the family’s food would be cut off. Bottled water in glass would reduce another point of vulnerability. Meals would either be prepared by trusted people or ordered from outside when needed.
It was not perfect, but it was something.
She nodded and placed her head on his chest again. It was nighttime, and they needed to sleep and gather their strength for tomorrow. The next day would not be easy. Ethan had to go to the hospital. He had to face his mother in a coma. He had to meet

the physiotherapist secretly. He had to continue pretending to be weaker than he was. Meadow had to begin acting like the Luna of
a house that might be poisoned from within. Keith had to guard Amber. Joseph had to keep the pack from collapsing. Everything was waiting for morning, heavy and sharp.
“Victoria is here,” Joseph linked Ethan.
Ethan looked down at Meadow. She was already settling, exhausted in a way she tried not to show. Her body had carried his care all
day. Her mind had carried new danger. Her heart had carried his pain as if it belonged to her too. He did not want to disturb her
rest.
“She knows where her room is. Meadow is about to sleep. They will see each other in the morning,” Ethan said,
