Underwater: The Silent Luna novel Chapter 225

Chapter 225

“I understand your anger, but my issue isn’t with him or the late Dr Mark. My issue is with the man that put them up to it by threatening their relatives. Dr James told us everything that happened. He did not tell the truth in person because he knew he would let Camila Richardson down since she saw him as a father figure,” Ethan confessed.

Dr Rosenberg still was not pleased, but he kept it to himself. Ethan could feel it through the silence. The doctor might understand the fear Dr James had faced, but understanding did not make betrayal easy to forgive. The situation would have goften worse for him if Dr James had not confessed. Joseph had been determined to make Dr Rosenberg suffer, and the doctor knew it. Maybe

everyone knew it now.

While Dr Rosenberg thought of his horrible encounter with Joseph, Amber’s blood work came through. He had her tested when they brought her to the hospital, and then had her tested again a few hours after they started treating her. He wanted to compare, the results and be thorough about it. Since what had happened with Ethan, there was no room for lazy trust anymore. Not in signatures. Not in medical notes. Not in symptoms that looked ordinary.

“I will call you back, Alpha. I need to go through Luna Amber’s test results. Since the whole thing with James happened, I have decided to be more thorough and not leave anything that has to do with your family to staff and colleagues,” Dr Rosenberg said.

Ethan understood. He had not finished discussing everything with the doctor, but he would wait for his call. If Dr Rosenberg wanted to be thorough, then Ethan would not rush him. Not when Amber’s life might depend on it.

They hung up.

Meadow had finished the massage by then, so Ethan asked her to join him in bed, but it came with the condition that she must have nothing on. The request came with a faint smile, one that tried to pull both of them away from the heavy things waiting outside the room. Meadow looked at him, and the small change in her eyes told him she understood exactly what he wanted. He was not asking because he could do much. He knew he could not. His stitches, the wound, the pain, and the need to heal quickly all stood between

them.

He just wanted to feel her.

He wanted to fill his senses with her scent. Roses and warmth and Meadow. His mate. His wife. His peace inside a house filled with suspicion. Her proximity was making him heal faster and feel better, or maybe it only felt that way because his body and wolf had finally found the one person they had been reaching for without knowing it. Echo was working overtime to get to the point where he could claim his mate. Ethan knew that was why his wolf had been silent, Echo was not gone. He was focused. Fighting beneath the skin, rebuilding what silver had tried to steal, pushing Ethan’s body towards strength.

No matter how calm Ethan tried to be about it, he could not hide his eagerness, and Meadow knew.

She climbed into the bed without clothes, smiling at him, and he could see the mischief in her eyes when she slipped beneath the sheets to please him. Ethan closed his eyes, smiling because he was about to be carried away from pain, fear, and strategy for a little while. For those moments, the world narrowed down to Meadow. Her warmth. Her softness. Her quiet confidence. The way she could make him feel like a man again without making him forget he was healing. She gave him pleasure without demanding strength from him. She gave him closeness without forcing his body beyond what it could bear.
