Keith thought about calling Joseph right then. But decided to wait until noon. It felt too early, too raw, and for once he let himself think perhaps there were a few quiet hours left before the next disaster. He did not know how wrong that thought was yet.

Elsewhere, Adam drove hard behind the ambulance. There had been no time for proper words after the battle at the mansion. Only movement. Only blood. Only getting the injured to where they could maybe still be saved. They reached the hospital and parked in the lot. All three men got out fast and rushed inside. The doors swallowed them into bright hospital light that felt almost unreal

after the darkness and violence of the estate.

The three injured people were taken immediately to the emergency ward. After that, Joseph, Adam, and Brian had to split up. Joseph

went where his mother was being treated. Brian followed Ashley’s case. Adam went with Levi.

For the first time since the attack began, Joseph had a moment to look at the clock. It was almost noon. That fact shocked him more

than he expected. They had fought for hours. Hours. It was a miracle any of them were still alive at all, seeing the odds they had

been up against.

He hoped what he had done, what he had signed, had bought them the time they needed. Time for Ethan to recover. Time to think. Time to gather a force strong enough to go after Sebastien and Cynthia properly. Because whether Ethan got better or not, Joseph now had a personal war with Sebastien. The bastard had bled his family, taken his pack under coercion, and dared to stand there smiling while they did it. Joseph planned on retaliating. He did not yet know exactly how or when, but the promise had already

formed in him.

Then something else happened. As Joseph stood near his mother’s treatment area, watching doctors move around Amber, he saw Dr Rosenberg approaching. The sight of him lit a fire in Joseph so fast that he stopped thinking. He did not pause to confirm. Did not pause to calculate. Did not pause to remember caution. He crossed the distance and slammed Dr Rosenberg against the wall so hard

the entire space went silent.

Staff froze. A nurse gasped. Someone dropped something metallic that clattered too loudly. Joseph did not care.

“Continue your jobs,” Joseph ordered.

The command came out with enough rage that everyone obeyed immediately. Heads lowered. Hands moved again. The room resumed around them, but only because they were terrified not to. Joseph held Dr Rosenberg against the wall and looked at him

with murder in his eyes.

“I am arresting you, you bastard!” Joseph said.

Rosenberg looked genuinely shocked. Not the shallow kind meant to buy time. Actual shock. His hands started shaking, and for a split second Joseph almost hated that because fear made men look weak and weak men were harder to hate properly.

“What did I do?” Dr Rosenberg stammered.

Joseph shoved him harder against the wall.

“You bastard, we trusted you. My parents trusted you, my brother and I trusted you, and you paid us back with evil,” Joseph said.

Rosenberg looked like he might collapse from fear alone.

“Please tell me what I did, Alpha,” Dr Rosenberg begged.

Joseph punched the wall beside his face so hard the doctor nearly had an attack right there.

“You put silver in my brother’s back so he wouldn’t walk. Why would you do that to a family you swore to serve? To your Alpha?”

Joseph demanded.
