Sienna
I froze in place upon seeing him forgetting to bow or pay my respects to him.
Alpha Asher walked in with his commanding presence that filled the room and his eyes never settled on me.
His gaze brushed past me like I was invisible, or a piece of furniture at most and went directly to Connor.
I wasn’t too sure if he wanted to acknowledge me but I slowly took a step back or two to inch closer to the window, trying to be invisible to him.
“Alpha Asher” Connor greeted him. “What made you come here? You could have asked me to come to your office instead.”
“The Harrington contract,” Alpha Asher said to Connor, setting a folder on the desk. “The legal team needs the revised clause on the northern territory before the end of day today to proceed with the official signing. Have you seen it?”
“I’ll have it done by two,” Connor reassured him.
“Get it done before two.” Alpha Asher tapped the folder and straightened himself.
“We need this done as soon as possible.”
“It will be on your desk before two,” Connor repeated, nodding his head.
Alpha Asher picked up his phone from his pocket, checked something, and set it back. “There’s also the matter of the investor dinner on Thursday evening. I want you there.”
“I’ll be there,” Connor replied.
Alpha Asher turned toward the door, his gaze again sliding over me like he hadn’t noticed me at all as he reached for the door handle.
But then he suddenly stopped and looked back at Connor.
“Alpha Harrington has a daughter, right?”
Connor nodded. “Elise, I met her yesterday over dinner. Her father adores her.”
Alpha Asher thought about it and nodded. “Maybe meet her over dinner again someday. Harrington has influence over the other major packs in London. Use her.”
Somehow I felt that Alpha Asher was not saying this to Connor but to me. It felt like he was reminding me of how he could steer Connor in the direction of any other girl he wanted and then proving it to me because I didn’t obey his command of keeping away from his sons.
“I will” I heard Connor say and the photos of Elise looping her arms around his neck flashed in front of my

eyes.
My breathing suddenly grew rapid.
“Good” Alpha Asher said and then threw me a brief glance before he was out of the office the next instant.
1 let out a breath I hadn’t been holding deliberately and then I felt fingers brush my elbow.
Connor was looking at me worriedly. “Are you alright?”
“I’m fine”
“You’ve gone a bit pale,” he observed.
“Just sleepy” I faked a yawn but then he turned me to face him.
“What happened?”
“Nothing,” I lied. “I think I should leave for home, mom must be worried sick.”
“Okay,” Connor said, after a moment, and I wasn’t sure he believed me but he let it be.
“You should work on the contract clause…”
“Which will take me thirty minutes at the max,” he said. “Sit down, Sienna.”
I shook my head and repeated. “I really should leave”
He looked at me for a second, and something in his expression was almost amused. “Okay, if you say so. My driver will be waiting for you downstairs”
“Bye” I said and turned around to rush outside the office before he could read the panic on my face.
The car was waiting in the front drive, a sleek black one with a driver who opened the door before I’d reached the bottom step.
I hurried towards it, not wanting to run into Alpha Asher again and quickly got inside the car.
I let my breathing return to normal and dabbed at my temples when my phone rang suddenly, surprising me.
Connor’s name flashed on my screen.

I was certain he wanted to check on me and I was preparing a believable lie as I received his call.
“Hey,” I said. “I just got in the car, and now will be heading home. I’m fine”
He said nothing to that.
“Connor?” 1 spoke, sitting straighter and then I heard his voice from the other end

“I got a call,” he said, his voice stripped of the usual confidence.
His voice sounded tight like he was holding himself together.
“Connor, are you alright? Who called you?”

“I got a call from the hospital,” he said and my hand tightened on the phone imperceptibly. “Connor, is your mom alright?”
“She’s okay,” he said, and I let out a sigh of relief.
“She’s…it’s not an emergency. But the doctor called.” Connor trailed off like he was struggling to put it together.
“My mother is having a good day.”
“That’s good news, right?” I asked, unsure why his voice still sounded so strained.

“Yeah, she ate and slept normally last night and the doctor said she is in a good mood today so I asked if I could come and meet her but…”
Connor gave a shaky exhale and I felt my nerves get jittery in anticipation.
“But what?”
“She doesn’t want to meet me” Connor replied and I realized why he sounded so disturbed. The last time his mom had slapped him, called him names and asked him to leave.
It had been gut wrenching to see his face crumple due to her behavior.
“But she wants another visitor. She asked to meet you.”
What?
I blinked slowly and tried to process what he had just told me.
“She asked specifically for me?” I asked in confusion.
“By name,” he reaffirmed.
“She asked if Sienna could come.” He took a brief pause, his voice growing anxious by the minute. “She said…. she remembered meeting you a few days ago and wanted to see you again.”
His voice suddenly grew hopeful. “Maybe, she is remembering bits and pieces….I know she didn’t leave a particularly good expression last time but please can you come?”
My throat was tight.
“Connor…” I began but he added desperately.

“I will be just outside the room and the doctors will be on standby. I swear I will not let her hurt you, Sienna. Its just that she has never asked for anyone and I thought…”
“Connor, I will…”
“Of course, you can say no if you want to. I wont force you but I really thought she was improving and…”
“Connor!!” I raised my voice slightly to stop him from cutting me abruptly once again.
“I’m waiting for you in the car. Come over.”
“You’re the best! Give me ten minutes” His too hopeful voice almost made my heart crack as I heard him hurriedly give instructions to the intern and climb down the stairs.
Meanwhile, I wondered how did his mom remember me and why she wanted to meet me but not her own
son.
