Chapter 103
Chapter 103
Sienna
While I was lost in thought, the maid’s words reached my ears.
“There’s a bath prepared whenever you’re ready”
The bath smelled like the one last night and I sat in it for longer than was strictly necessary, part of me not wanting to deal with the real life problems waiting for me.
I recalled Connor’s anger and wrath as he beat the goons, almost killing one of them and stopping when I shouted his name out loud.
I also vaguely recalled Josh saying it was all Aaron’s plan to make me feel good and then Aaron brushing it off to run behind Sandra.
I wasn’t even sure if I wanted to confront Aaron. My brain decided to ignore him and let my thoughts drift
back to Connor.
And as if on cue, my phone buzzed. His name popped on the screen, lighting it up and I scampered up to grab my phone from the edge of the bath.
Your mother thinks you’re at Jane’s.
Oh fuck, I had completely forgotten about my mother and how much she would be worried about me.
She had texted me twice last night that I’d only seen now, the first one asking me when I was returning home and the other asking me to rest well at Jane’s place.
I stared at that for a moment.
He’d covered for me yet again.
I typed back: Did you sleep at all?
I slept for a few hours. You?
Very well, I sent. The bath is extraordinary.
I know, he replied. I picked the eucalyptus specifically because you liked it yesterday.
I immediately set the phone down on the edge and leaned back thinking that I was going to be in so much trouble.
When the bath water had gone cold, I reluctantly stepped outside, dried myself and walked out to see a dress laid out for me on the bed, probably by the maid as instructed by Connor.
The dress he’d chosen was lemon yellow with cute little flowers on it. I put it on in front of the mirror and stood there for a moment because it fit like it had been made for me. It was a cute and simple dress but it fit

me like a glove. The thought of him picking this out made warmth flood in my chest that had nothing to do with the temperature of the room.
I texted him: How are you free? Aren’t you in back to back meetings?
His response came immediately: For you, I can always make an exception.
He was flirting again, wasn’t he?
I sent him another text. You should focus on work and I should go home.
Connor: Meet me once before you leave. I’m in the office
I looked at the phone for a second. He had sent a sad face emoji at the end of the message that made me chuckle to myself.
I brushed my hair once, twirled around in front of the mirror and then I went upstairs.
He was on the phone when I reached the glass wall of his office, standing with his back partly to me, and looking out over the gardens below. The morning light bounced off the sharp lines of his shoulders in that immaculate suit he was wearing.
Goddess, his side profile was all sharp angles and hot, just like the rest of him.
I noticed the intern’s desk in his office was empty, and then I realized why. The desk had been moved outside his office, not just right outside his door either but further down the corridor.
A feeling I didn’t want to examine too closely blossomed up in my chest just a second before he glanced over and saw me through the glass, my profile partially hidden behind the pillar.
He gestured at me with his hand to come in.
I pushed the door open as he continued to talk to someone about numbers and trade margins while I crossed the room to approach him.
He turned to look at me fully as I came in, and his eyes moved over me unhurriedly, and I felt my pulse spike.
He ended the call and spent a few minutes observing me before the silence turned awkward.
“It looks good on you,” he said.
“Thank you,” I said. “Hope you like it”
I nodded. “It fit me perfectly and is so soft almost like I am wearing nothing…” I began and then stopped abruptly upon realizing what I had spoken aloud in his workplace.
He crossed the distance between us and stopped close enough to lower his voice, and said, very evenly: “That was the point.”
“How…how did you know my measurements?” I asked the question I had been meaning to since a while.

Goosebumps prickled my skin as he leaned close but not enough to touch me as he murmured against my ear. “I spent last night getting to know every inch of you rather well.”
The heat in my face was hot enough to power a furnace.
“That’s…” I pressed my lips together. “You’re flirting when you are supposed to be working”
“I am exceptionally good at multitasking so I can do both,” he said, not even denying my statement.
“You are insufferable” I frowned, and he flashed me a smile so beautiful it made my heart ache.
“All for my special girl” He gave me a quick short bow and I shook my head.
“I wanted to thank you for covering up for my mother,” I said, pushing the hair out of my face.
“It wasn’t a problem.”
“It was very…”
“Sienna.” His voice was mild but the look he gave me was not. “Stop thanking me for things.”
“You did something I should have”
“And are you going to keep cataloguing it and thanking me for each item individually?” he asked, cocking an eyebrow.
I opened my mouth and closed it, because he was right, and he knew that.
“Fine”
“Thank you”
“Don’t thank me for things,” I frowned.
His lips twitched. “Fair.”
This was a fight I never expected to have with Connor nor had I expected to enjoy this banter.
My bubble of joy lasted just for a few minutes before I saw Connor’s expression change.
He quickly stepped away from me as the office door opened behind me.
I turned around to see who it was and came face to face with Alpha Asher.
