The Wife He Forgot to Marry (Winona and Yule) novel Chapter 565

"Don't worry, I know exactly what I'm doing," Rosalind promised. "But if I pull this off, I want that ruby necklace you won at the auction last month."

"Deal."

After a few more elimination rounds, Winona found herself matched against Rosalind.

Rosalind offered her a sweet, self-deprecating smile. "You're incredible, Winona. I guess I'm just here to make you look good."

Winona offered a polite nod. Despite having raced multiple times already, she looked entirely unbothered, her breathing steady and her composure flawless.

Beneath her sweet facade, Rosalind seethed. If Winona had just known her place and lost gracefully, she wouldn't have to suffer. But since she wanted to show off, she was going to learn a painful lesson.

The race began. Winona handled her horse with masterful precision, her back perfectly straight, looking effortlessly striking. Even Lyle and Xavier, who usually couldn't tear their eyes away from Rosalind, were internally marveling at Winona's skill.

Suddenly, Rosalind's horse panicked. It bolted wildly off its path, charging straight at Winona with terrifying speed.

Winona reacted with lightning reflexes. She forcefully yanked her reins, pivoting her horse on a dime and narrowly dodging the collision. Rosalind, on the other hand, lost her balance and nearly tumbled from the saddle. Fortunately, the club's coaches had been trailing them closely, and they rushed in to secure the frantic horse.

Rosalind was helped to the ground, pale and trembling violently. Lyle and Xavier rushed forward to coddle her.

Tears brimmed in Rosalind's eyes. "I'm fine... it's my fault. I'm just not skilled enough. I almost got Winona hurt."

Cheryl hurried over to Winona. "Are you okay?"

Internally, she was reeling. No one ever reacted fast enough to dodge that trick. Usually, the victim ended up thrown into the dirt with a broken bone.

Winona stared coolly in Rosalind's direction. "Rosalind's horse was perfectly docile until a moment ago. A sudden panic like that usually has a trigger. I think the club needs to run a full investigation."

Cheryl stiffened. They absolutely could not allow an investigation. She hadn't expected Winona to be sharp enough to realize it wasn't a genuine accident.
