Winona didn't go to the hospital. Instead, she had Ezra drive her straight home. Halfway there, she received a call from the local precinct—Willow really had called the cops. The officer requested she come down to the station for questioning.
Having absolutely nothing to hide, Winona told Ezra to turn the car around. While en route, she called Hayes Yarwood and asked him to meet her there.
When she walked into the station, Willow, Yulen, and Giselle were already waiting. Winona ignored them completely, walking straight to the officer's desk to give her statement.
"...She walked up to me and grabbed my wrist. I didn't shove her, and I didn't even try to forcefully yank my arm away. She simply let go and fell backward on her own."
The officer typed out her statement. "What is your relationship to the victim? Is there any history of animosity between you two?"
Winona let out a dark, humorless laugh. "She wrecked my marriage and slept with my ex-husband."
Across the room, Yulen flinched, his fists clenching at his sides.
"So, there is a documented history of emotional conflict between you two?" the officer pressed.
"Yes, but as far as I'm concerned, that's ancient history. I've moved on. I'm in a new relationship, and I'm very happy."
"Did the fact that she ruined your marriage cause you to harbor any resentment or a desire for revenge?"
Winona smiled, her expression completely genuine. "I strongly dislike her, obviously. But I have a moral compass. I don't go around physically assaulting people."
"Given the history between you two, is there anyone else who can corroborate that she fell on her own?"
Before Winona could answer, Willow shoved Giselle forward. "Giselle saw her push Tallulah! This bitch murdered my grandson! You have to lock her up!"
Giselle looked at Winona with a perfectly manufactured expression of regret. "Winona, I really did see you two struggling and arguing..."
"You saw her aggressively grabbing my arm," Winona corrected, her voice ice-cold. "I didn't lay a finger on her. You saw a struggle, but you did not see me push her. Isn't that right?"
Giselle hesitated, playing the part of a conflicted witness. "Well... yes, I suppose that's technically true. But right after Tallulah hit the ground, she explicitly said you pushed her."
