Yulen convinced himself that Winona's refusal to work with the Locke Group was solely because she still held a grudge against Tallulah. It was a twisted comfort—at least it meant she still cared enough to be angry.
Tallulah had managed to secure an invitation to the symposium through Quentin Vance. Standing near the back of the venue, she watched Winona shining effortlessly under the lights, and then her gaze snapped to Yulen, who was leaning in closely, whispering to Giselle. A wave of pure, venomous hatred washed over her pale face.
She was trapped at home, enduring the agonizing side effects of her high-risk pregnancy, putting up with a demanding mother-in-law and a vicious sister-in-law. Meanwhile, Yulen was out parading around with other women.
She waited until Yulen stepped away to network with some executives before marching straight up to Giselle.
When Giselle saw her, she visibly recoiled. Tallulah used to be undeniably beautiful. Now, she looked severely emaciated and easily ten years older. Her hair was thinning, her posture was slumped, and her swollen belly looked grotesquely disproportionate to her gaunt frame.
Tallulah saw the disgust flash in Giselle's eyes.
This pregnancy was incredibly unstable. The doctors had strictly ordered bed rest, warning her that she was on the verge of needing a medical abortion if she pushed herself. But how could she stay in bed when Yulen was out acting like a bachelor? She had been choking down aggressive hormone pills to keep the baby, and the side effects were destroying her body and her looks.
Once her beauty faded, Yulen stopped coming home entirely. The only way she knew where her own husband was, was by hiring people to track him.
"Are you trying to steal Yulen from me?" Tallulah hissed, her eyes wild.
Giselle frowned, utterly unimpressed. "I have zero interest in Yulen."
"Liar! If you aren't trying to sleep with him, why are you always draped all over him at these events? You don't even work for the Locke Group! You're trying to take my place!"
Giselle let out a harsh, mocking laugh. "We have a professional partnership. And honestly? He's completely beneath my standards."
"What is that supposed to mean?"
"It means I'm not pathetic like you," Giselle sneered. "You're ruining your health just to satisfy Yulen's obsession with having sons. It's pathetic! My future husband is going to be infinitely more powerful than Yulen Locke, and he'll do exactly what I say. As long as I don't want kids, he can't force me."
