The thought that his biological children might be dead hit Sylvan like a physical blow to the chest.
It took him a long moment to steady his breathing and regain his composure. "I will never let that happen. If Winona thinks she can use Wynne, she's severely underestimating me."
"Mr. Scully, have you considered... before we know for sure what happened to the twins, maybe you should find two proxies to take their place? Just to offer Mom some emotional comfort? That way, her heart is protected, and a manipulative opportunist like Winona won't be able to exploit her grief. I know you're the only one who would never hurt Mom."
Her words planted a very dangerous seed in Sylvan's mind.
Ophelia ended the call.
Stepping out of her bedroom, she called out to the kitchen staff, "Is the lamb stew ready?"
"Almost, Ms. Powell!" the maid smiled politely, not missing a beat in her prep work.
Ophelia's smile vanished instantly.
Ever since she returned to the Capital, she noticed she was being watched. The household staff—likely under orders from Ryder or Wynne—were constantly hovering, eavesdropping on her calls, and covertly searching her room under the guise of cleaning.
Since her adoptive parents had clearly stripped her of their trust, there was no point in pretending to care about their "family bond" anymore.
She walked back into her room, pulled out her phone, and fired off a text to a secure number: *Sylvan took the bait. Find candidates who can infiltrate my adoptive parents' circle.*
The reply came almost instantly: *Done.*

After tennis, Wynne brought Winona back to the estate for lunch.
Once the spread was on the table, Winona found the crispy roast pork exceptional and reached for a few extra pieces.
Noticing this, Wynne immediately turned to the private chef. "Do we have more of the roast pork?"
"Yes, ma'am."
"Box it up. I want Winona to take it home with her."
"Right away."
Winona couldn't help but laugh. "Wynne, really, you don't have to. Lexie cooks for us at home, and her food is amazing."
"Roast pork is incredibly labor-intensive; it takes hours to prep properly," Wynne insisted gently. "Take this home, and it'll save Lexie the hassle tonight."
Unable to argue with that logic, Winona accepted gracefully.
After lunch, Wynne had the staff brew some artisanal floral tea. While they were drinking it, she slipped into her room and returned with two luxury shoeboxes.
"I was out shopping the other day and saw these. I thought they'd look perfect on you, so I picked them up."
