The Wife He Forgot to Marry (Winona and Yule) novel Chapter 482

Maxine had always felt deeply sorrowful for Wynne. The loss of her biological children had haunted Wynne for decades; she hadn't known a day of true peace since. And when it came down to it, it was all Sylvan Scully's fault.

Just then, Ophelia walked in.

She ignored Winona completely and called out to Maxine, "Maxine."

Maxine looked at her sympathetically. "Ophelia, taking care of your mother must be exhausting for you."

Ophelia lowered her eyes, a look of profound sadness on her face. "It's the least I can do. I just want my mother to wake up soon."

Winona, who had kept her gaze fixed on Mrs. Powell, suddenly noticed something. She thought she saw Mrs. Powell's hand twitch slightly.

Afraid she was imagining things, she grabbed Maxine's arm. "Maxine, look—did Wynne's hand just move?"

Maxine snapped her attention to the bed. Sure enough, Wynne's fingers twitched again.

"Get the doctor, quick!" Maxine cried out, thrilled. "Wynne might be waking up!"

Ophelia looked over, a flash of pure panic cutting through her eyes.

Hearing the commotion, Mr. Powell rushed into the room from the hallway.

The doctor hurried in, examined Mrs. Powell's vitals, and turned to them with a smile. "The patient is showing meaningful motor responses, which is an excellent sign of returning consciousness. Based on this, she is highly likely to wake up soon. We will intensify our monitoring and care."

Winona, Ryder, and Maxine were overjoyed.

Ophelia, however, turned deathly pale.

Stepping out of the room later, Maxine checked in with Winona. "Are you taking the medication I prescribed?"

Winona nodded. "Yes, right on schedule."

Maxine beamed with encouragement. "Who knows, by the time Wynne wakes up, you might have some good news of your own. That would be a double blessing."

Ophelia, trailing behind them, overheard the exchange.

Her expression instantly twisted with malice.

Winona is working so hard to get her body ready just so she can get pregnant and force Margaret into letting her join the Goddard family?

She would absolutely never let that happen.
