Winona listened quietly, finding the whole exchange utterly pathetic.
Yulen constantly claimed to love her, yet knowing full well that Tallulah had hurt her, he still chose to coddle the other woman.
Just then, Yulen caught sight of Winona standing by the balcony. He froze.
His lips parted, and he took a step toward her, but Tallulah instantly grabbed his arm.
"Yulen, she already knows everything. She must hate us now. Why don't you just make it clear to her and stop dragging this out?" Tallulah begged.
Yulen frowned in displeasure. "What happened between us doesn't affect my feelings for Winona. I will explain everything to her. Go back to your room and rest."
Seeing him pull away, Tallulah shot Winona a venomous glare before finally leaving.
Winona was genuinely amazed that Yulen could still stand before her with such calm composure. His sheer audacity was almost impressive.
Looking at her with his usual manufactured devotion, Yulen said, "Winona, listen to me. It's not what you think. I never wanted to hurt you. My family backed me into a corner. I had no choice."
"Forced you into forging a marriage license?" Winona scoffed. "Do you honestly expect me to buy that? Stop pushing the blame for your own actions onto everyone else. It just makes you look like a hypocrite."
Yulen sighed, playing the victim. "You don't understand. To be with you, I got on my knees and begged my mother. I starved myself. But she refused to budge. Finally, my sister suggested we get a fake license and live together. If you could pass their tests, we'd make it real. My mom was actually starting to accept you, but you just couldn't get pregnant. That's why she wouldn't let me get the real license."
"So now it's my fault?" Winona fired back. "And sleeping with Tallulah—was your mother holding a gun to your head for that too?"
"That was a misunderstanding!" he rushed to explain. "I thought she was the one who pulled me out of the fire... so I felt indebted to her. Even when I found out it was actually you, the damage was done. We had already slept together, and she was pregnant. Winona, you're the one I love the most, but I'm a man. I have to take responsibility for my child. The Locke family needs an heir, and that child can't be illegitimate. That's the only reason I legally married her."
Yulen glared at Stefan, his face darkening.
Stefan slipped an arm around Winona's waist, his tone dripping with mockery. "Your version of love is stripping her of her rights as a wife, turning her into a mistress, and demanding all the obligations of a relationship with none of the legal protection. Is that love? Or is that just utter humiliation?"
Seeing Stefan's hand resting intimately on Winona's waist, Yulen's eyes flared with jealous rage.
"You stand there judging me, but aren't you the one cheating with him?!"
Winona let out a humorless laugh.
He could spin a million self-righteous excuses for his own betrayal, but the moment she moved on with Stefan, she was committing a cardinal sin. Ultimately, Yulen had never viewed her as an equal human being—just a possession.
