Winona walked out of the Locke family estate, only to be ambushed by Paige, who rushed forward and shoved her hard.
Caught off guard, Winona stumbled and fell, a sharp pain shooting up her tailbone.
Paige screamed at her, "You ungrateful bitch! Are you happy now that our family is a public laughingstock? How have we ever wronged you? If it weren't for Yulen, do you think you'd ever have had a good life?"
Winona waited for the initial shock of pain to pass before slowly picking herself up. She looked at Paige coldly. "Your entire family hid the truth about the fake marriage license from me. Yulen married Tallulah and even had a kid with her. Is that what you call a 'good life'?"
Paige scoffed. "That's because you come from trash and couldn't even give him a child! Look in the mirror before you go blaming everyone else!"
Without a second thought, Winona raised her hand and slapped her across the face.
Paige glared furiously, raising her hand to strike back, but Ezra Vane stepped in front of Winona.
Ezra was tall and intimidatingly fierce. Paige's aggressive momentum instantly fizzled out.
Gritting her teeth, she hissed, "You think you're so tough now, Winona! You cross me, and you'll never be welcomed back into our family!"
"As if I'd ever want to," Winona sneered. She glanced at Ezra. "Let's go."
He nodded, releasing Paige's wrist, and escorted Winona away.
Paige stared after her, bewildered. Who did she manage to hook up with now? Since when does she have such a terrifying bodyguard?
When the car pulled up to her driveway, Winona got out, wincing at the dull ache in her lower back. She endured the discomfort, heading inside to find a pain relief patch.
Just then, Stefan arrived.
He had finished his meetings for the day and heard from his assistant about the Locke family's PR disaster blowing up online. Since Winona wanted to handle the feud herself, he respected her boundaries. However, he had subtly instructed his assistant to buy more trending spots, ensuring the scandal would take the Lockes much longer to sweep under the rug.
Winona was actually in high spirits after witnessing Tallulah's public humiliation. She had wanted to celebrate with Stefan, but the throbbing in her tailbone meant she needed to apply a patch and lie down first.
"You only have Ezra and Waldo with you," he said grimly. "That's not enough. I'm assigning two more bodyguards."
Winona really didn't want a small army following her everywhere. "Ezra and Waldo are plenty. Ezra stopped her today—he did a great job. There's no need to add more people."
Stefan fell silent, clearly debating whether to overrule her.
The next morning, Winona checked her phone and saw that the heat around the Locke scandal had dropped slightly, though it was still trending. Clearly, they were burning through cash to suppress it, but failing to erase it entirely.
Stefan stepped out to take a call. Bored of sitting in bed, Winona slowly got up to stretch her legs.
She shuffled down the hall toward the outdoor balcony. As she looked out at the view, she suddenly heard Yulen and Tallulah's voices.
Wearing a hospital gown, Tallulah was clinging to him. "Yulen, please stay with me today. I'm so scared your mom is going to come here and yell at me."
"I already talked to her," Yulen replied. "I told her not to take this out on you. Just focus on recovering. I'll have people handle the press."
