Tallulah stared at Yulen as if he were her last lifeline, desperately hoping he would step in and shut this down.
But Winona suddenly held up her phone, flashing the dialed emergency number with a taunting smirk.
Tallulah’s breath hitched.
No, she couldn't gamble with her freedom. If Yulen refused to bail her out against the Goddards, she’d end up rotting in a prison cell just like her mother.
Gritting her teeth, she faced the confused crowd of high-society guests. "Today... I want to stand here and offer my most sincere apologies to Winona Jowett."
Willow, who was bouncing the baby on her hip, frowned sharply. What the hell was wrong with this woman? Apologizing to Winona at her grandson's welcome party?
Yulen was equally bewildered. He had no idea what was going on, but his wife could not be making a fool of herself in front of everyone. He started walking toward the stage to cut her off.
Then, he glanced to the side and froze.
Winona was standing right there.
What was she doing here? Tonight was his son’s celebration. Did someone slip up? Did she find out the truth?
Forgetting about Tallulah entirely, he pivoted and started walking toward Winona to do damage control.
On stage, Tallulah’s voice violently trembled through the speakers. "During the competition... I was the one who framed the Goddard Group’s team for plagiarizing. I was the one who slandered Winona... It was all my fault, and I am so sorry...
"And... recently... I hired someone to run her over with a car. I tried to hurt her. I stand here today to apologize to Winona... I truly know what I did was wrong."
The entire hall plunged into a deathly silence. Every single guest stared at her as if she were a monster.
Tallulah could practically hear their thoughts. They were utterly disgusted. They were condemning her.
Her eyes frantically searched for Yulen. He was standing in the middle of the room, staring up at her with a look of pure, unadulterated shock and horror.
She had spent years painstakingly crafting the image of a pure, innocent, and deeply devoted woman for him. Now, in the span of a minute, she had completely obliterated it.
Her mind short-circuited. The suffocating weight of panic and humiliation crashed over her, the room spun violently, and her vision went black as she collapsed onto the stage.
Yulen felt like he was trapped in a nightmare.
How could Tallulah have done something so psychotic to Winona?
His brain stalled for a second before reality snapped him back—she was still the mother of his child. He couldn't just leave her lying there.
He rushed onto the stage to check on her.
"She paid someone to run the girl over? That’s literally attempted murder! An apology doesn't fix that. Send her to prison!"
"She has so much dirt on her. The Locke family must be entirely blind to accept a daughter-in-law like that."
Camille Locke had just walked through her front door when she noticed the staff whispering frantically. Her mother was nowhere to be found, and Yulen was carrying an unconscious Tallulah.
She frowned, about to ask what the hell had happened, when her assistant shoved a tablet into her hands.
Seeing the viral video and the brutal comments tearing their family apart, she nearly passed out.
Tallulah was a walking catastrophe. She hadn't given the family a single day of peace.
"Call PR right now!" Camille screamed. "Get those trending topics taken down! Faster!"
"Yes, ma'am!"
Inside, Tallulah slowly regained consciousness.
Realizing she was in Yulen's arms, she covered her face, too consumed by shame and terror to look up.
But knowing how smug Winona must be feeling right now, she immediately went on the offensive, crying into Yulen's chest. "Yulen... she forced me! She said if I didn't say all of that, she would do something horrible to Stanley! She just wanted to humiliate our family in front of everyone! Yulen, you have to see how vicious she really is!"
